Who Watches Top Gear on Discovery?
The show is fabulous and living over here in the UK it's on almost three times a week if not more.
Here is some great news, Top Gear is putting on a show called MPH05 it will be held in donwotown London and in Birmingham in very large open convention centers like the Javits Center in NYC. It is a live version of the show where they actaully do all the car stunts inside for real
And we got front row seats how trick is that
Check this show out: www.mphshow.co.uk
There is also Top Gear the magazine and for any of you who are familiar with the show, last month's issue came with your own refridgerator magnet "cool Wall" with all the cars they have been testing this season and a big magnetic header bar that has "Seriously Uncool, Uncool, Cool and Sub Zero Cool"

Top Gear Rules!!!!!!
--That show rocks! I was watching it last night and they were doing a lamborghini focus. They mentioned that the lamborghini was the first supercar to put the engine behind the drivers compartment, and to make that huge V-12 fit they put it sideways/transverse. They mentioned slyly,
"they got that idea from the mini"
I was grinning ear to ear on that comment. But its little stuff like that, that I'd like to see more of. A little cheeky british commentary here and there. I dont' want them to hold back, I want them to tell us what they really think. Because from reading british motorcycle magazines I've realized that they're crazy about high performance and they don't care what is politically correct. I love that!
But anyway I searched on the web and I found that Top Gear was right about the Mini being the first transverse mounted engine. Have a gander:

Neat-O! So most modern four cylinders owe their small size to the Mini. I'd credit the V-6s too, but transverse mounting doesn't seem to be THAT cool on them. Especially when you have to change a sparkplug facing a firewall. Ick.
But yeah Top Gear rules. They shouldn't water it down, they should send it to us ultra-concentrated. Swearing and dirty jokes included.

I love the show, Jeremy is pretty cool for a British (no offense, they tend to be distant, cold, but I like them).
BTW, I have subscription for the Top Gear magazine. I strongly recommend it to you guys. It is a great magazine and it costs less if you get one year subscription.

In fact, that was the show that hooked me on checking out the MINI. The rest is history.
Too bad, Speed TV seems to have dropped it.
You should think yourself lucky.....we don't even get it down here....
'tis all off the internet....I watched all of season six in two sittings!
They are talking about making an Australian equivalent of Top Gear as well.....what fools....!! It'll be crap...
We do get 5th gear....which I personally don't like.....I probably would have liked it if I hadn't have seen Top Gear first, but the 5th gear crew seem so boring compared to Clarkson and Co.
At least you guys have Speed Channel.....damn...I miss that!

Could someone point me to some info on the new US version of "Top Gear" that's being mentioned on this thread?
I couldn't find anything on the Discovery Channel site or with Google, and I want to make sure I set my Tivo for it...

I love, love, love TOP GEAR! I spen much of last year in the UK and watched a lot of this show. I would come home and try to explain how great is was to my husband, but he didn't get it until we started watching the inferior Discovery version.
Anyone catch the Lotus v. Apache helicopter segment? Brilliant!!!

Remember, they can trash the cars on the British version b/c the BBC is not sponsored by any manufacturer (read: no commericals). The show runs 59:46 mins long. Here, it's about 42 mins. That's almost 1/3 of the shows cut out for the US. Not to mention some editing in the car reviews (a lot of the music they use over there they can't use here b/c of licensing woes).
I do not think they could feasibly get to create the same show over here b/c they could never be BRUTALLY honest about the cars. One of them could always be (or owned by a company that could be) an advertiser on the Discovery Network or TLC...

I do, I do, I do!!!! I love it and Tivo every edition. I have always preferred Euro cars to any other region of the world and after buying Top Gear, CAR and EVO for over 20 years, it is nice to see it on TV. Cheers.

Yeah... At least we get to watch parts of it. My roomate was pretty impresssed since that's the first time he's seen the Atom. Too bad they cut out most of the parts about it's handling...go figure, it's America.

Watch Top Gear??
Me too!
I love the British take on things, and european cars have always been of interest. In my younger days I went through a British car and motorcycle phase. Had one each of the following: Bugeye Sprite, MG Midget, Austin Healey 3000, Hilman Minx (convertable!), Land Rover 109 (shades of Wild Kingdom!), a BSA Spitfire Scrambler (cycle) and Greeves Griffon (cycle). Ah the days of mysterious oil leaks and unreliable electrics!! But I swear every one of them had a "personality"..................................... ....mgg

What happened to the show? Was I the only who noticed it wasn't on this week and discoverychannel.com has no mention of it in their line up. I did notice a couple weeks ago they shifted the second showing of the night to 1AM (central). I hope that they didn't decide to drop it all together. Anyone have any ideas of what happened?
