I Love The 80's - Cars

What are some cars made in the 1980's that you like or liked? Which ones do you think are likely to become collectable?

The Ferrari F40, certainly. The Porsche 959. The early-'80s Golf GTI. And, of cars I actually had, the Porsche 944 Turbo S. There were some decent cars in the '80s, which was a welcome relief after the automotive Dark Ages of the '70s.

Some cool non-exotic cars from the 80s:

E28 M5/E24 M6
BMW Z1
Celica GTS All Trac
Mazda 323 GTX
The Shelby Turbo Cars (GLH, CSX, Etc)
Spirit R/T
Buick Grand National/GNX
Cyclone/Typhoon
Renault GTA <- I'll admit to owning one of these and liking it
Merkur XR4ti
Mustang SVO
Miata
DeLorean
88 Fiero GT

Dunno if any of them will be collectible. The GNX and some of the more rare Shelby cars are good bets.

I always had a soft spot in my heart for the Pontiac Fiero. It was a cool idea that was not always well executed. If I could find a cheap 1988 Fiero GT, that could be a cool project.

How about the cool Rally Cars of the 1980's?
Audi Coupe GT
Ford Sierra Cosworth
Lancia Stratos
Peugeot 205 turbo 16

There were more muscle cars around in the 1980's than there are in today's retro car frenzy
- Z28 and IROC Z and Trans Am GTA, with the Corvette engine
- Buick Grand National
- Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe
- The Corvette ZR-1

Of course, there were some fine exotics. The Ferrari F-40 comes to mind.

The IMSA race cars of the 1980's are still unmatched. Especially the ones by Jaguar, Porsche and Nissan.

1984 VW Jetta GLI.

First year of GLI; last year of A1 Jetta. GTI engine, transmission, brakes and wheels. Suspension pieces unique to the GLI. Sport seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob, limited other options. Only 5 exterior color options and 2 interior color options.

I bought one new in June of 1984, sold it to a friend in March of 1987 and have regretted selling it ever since.
