Is there such a thing as an economical car w/ the wide wheel base & great steering?

Besides the obvious classic mini. Perhaps from the pre electronic era? Just curious, really.
But for the last several years, my older brother has the habit of buying cheap older cars so he has one small eco car, one truck & one SUV. I don't know why the SUV. But they aren't old enough to be simple, cheap solid cars. At an antiques fair last year, I saw a man that has a 70s Datsun pickup which seems the obvious choice for a truck for most that aren't hauling large loads they don't have up mountains they don't live in. He said there were clubs for the car and parts readily available. My mom had a Datsun truck in the 70s. I don't recall my Dad ever having to work on it and i think we pulled the horse trailer all right with it. And filled it with heavy things like hay bales that we picked out of the field.
But what's a good car?

I'm confused, are you trying to pull together a car truck combo like your brother?
First if you are going economical car I'd say that's more reason tog get a big powerful long bed truck...
Are You looking for a fun 1 person commuter or something with passenger space?
Your first issue is that a pre-electronic car will be easier to repair but have a lot more issues due to age.
I'm thinking a first gen mr2 or a 2nd gen fiero, maybe an early miata Not sure how many decent car are out there. The miata and mr2 are both super reliable but all three are popular as hobbyist track cars
