My aunt and uncle are pretty into minivan's and SUV's (baaah), but since they only have 1 child, have a old Toyota pickup to tow their horse trailers when required and a classic 70's Benz convertable- they required a new everyday family car. Their 1993 Nissan Quest with 180,000MI is dying! They live in South Carolina, some dirt roads nearby- but they are well maintained.

The phone debate went between a Sequoia, Highlander, Freestar, Tunrda pickup and a Durango. Eventually, tho, they started considering the station wagons. Audi Allroad was too much $$$, Dodge Magnum was too "funny looking" to them, so they settled on a Subaru Outback 3.0R VDC. Their pretty sure about it, has anyone driven one or had expierences with one? The reviews look overall positive so far.

It looks pretty nice, specs seem decent on handling and quick. Fuel econ looks ok, certainly better than an SUV!
Any other suggestions for a wagon around $30,000 that can handle some maintained dirt roads?

Look within our own automotive family...a BMW 325xi wagon, starts at $32.5k...

The 325xi is a highly competent machine. test drove it three times and was about to buy it when I ran into the A6 Allroad.......the rest is history......

I agree wholeheartedly with PRO. Go for an Audi A6.
