We are excited to introduce a United States Smart Car Tour on behalf of a well-respected corporation in 2004! Based on the extensive interest in Mini Owners, we wanted to extend the excitement of this promotional tour to North American Motoring members.

Experienced drivers are needed to participate in the upcoming promotional tour dates set begining in the New York and Los Angeles areas. We would love to have Mini enthusiasts take part in this unique opportunity. Drivers are needed to motor the branded Smart ForTwo and Smart ForTwo Cabrios as a unit to create a moving billboard for the corporation throughout identified popular areas.

Positions (4) are available in New York for experienced Smart Car drivers for any of the following dates: Friday, May 28, Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30th from 10:00AM - 4:00PM. Exact times and locations are to be confirmed, note each day of participation will consist of six hours with payment at $25 per hour. To apply for a position on the crew, any interested US driver should contact sgreanias@legacymp.com to receive further tour details and expectations.

We are looking forward to a successful presence and creating excitement with the exclusive cars. I appreciate your time and additional assistance Mini members may be able to provide regarding drivers for the tour.
Thanks!
Stacy

Yeah I'd like to know what an Experienced Smart Car driver is? I mean, you're inviting MINI drivers to participate. Is this assuming there are MINI drivers who've also driven Smart Cars? Or is this just an assumption that since we drive small cars, we're probably decent Smart Car drivers too? Just curious.

Got any possible dates for the LA tour?
It's a long swim from Hawaii but it sounds like fun.

I have an idea. I am a real estate appraiser and spend several hours a day driving around neighborhoods and on the freeway. Why don't you give me a Smart Car for free and it will serve as free advertizing? Oh well, worth a try...

But the cars they want you to drive for the promotion are hideous.

A smart car is the smallest car ever. I guess they think.. ah.. mini are small too but, the truth is Mini's are attractive and fast enough to drive on the interstate.
Not practical in the US because it tops out about 60 miles an hour. It's manufactured by Mercedes so...

We must have been posting at the same time... and we have VERY different ideas of the "smart car". If they actually plan to sell that roadster they better talk to mercedes about the name.

I like all of the Smart cars. I think they are great at what they were meant for. Zipping around congested cities. I wouldn't want to drive one on the Dragon but I'd love to have one for an urban commute.

One of my teenage sons recently returned from a two week vacation in Europe and he was very enthusiastic about the car. He thinks that it would be ideal as a runabout while in college.

And the roadster marketing pics all show them in wide open spaces, like in the pics above.

The bluewave version of the roadster looks sweet! I visited the website, and it looks pretty nice. Price around 17,000 pounds. Very similar to a Cooper S price.

The motor only makes about 80hp, but the entire engine assembly weighs only 60kg. They don't list any performance figures, tho.

It figures that there is a huge caveat. The roadster is one of the coolest looking cars I've seen in years and the light weight is awesome, so naturally the car has extremely inadequate power.

I think the engine is air cooled or partially air cooled.

The US market is so wrapped up in luxury, that I bet this car could never sell here simply because it doesn't have power steering.
