Perhaps it's just me, but from certain angles- I certainly see Mini Cooper design elements??? I rather like this, but it still isn't as cool as my MCS  The name of this slipped my mind, sure someone will chime in!

The center exhaust, tight front/rear overhangs, arches over the wheels, chrome door handles, center speedo, even the lights vaguely resemble a Mini...

I hugely agree. Every time I was nearby the MX, someone would utter "it looks like a pumped up MINI!" Needless to say, I was not amused
The curved shoulder front to back, the center pipes, the blacked out a-pillar, and the wheel arches combine all to familar

I hugely disagree. None of the design elements listed as being MINI-derived, the blacked-out pillars, the center-exit exhaust, wheel arches, shoulders, center speedo, etc., originated with the MINI. It's a pumped up, sporting version of a tiny Mazda 5-door and I hope they sell it here.

well, our opinions don't change the facts - this model is a peek at what the Mazda2 will be. Soon to be released in Europe, and then here in the States later this year, according to my sources.

maybe its me but everyone else's "mini" car just looks like your standard subcompact economy car. The MINI has a charm and personality that no one else, so far, has been able to match. It's modern and retro at the same time. It has history. All these new cars, and there will be plenty of people trying to copy the MINI-mystique, seem sterile and boring. I cant' put my finger on it but I just don't see anyone getting the same emotional attachment to a Mazda 3 or a Focus or any of the others.

My 2 cents

Wow, another sub-compact

I think it looks nice for a MINI-inspired small car. Gives a good idea of what a MINI might look like with 4 doors.

I certainly appreciate the trend toward producing quality small efficient cars.

MUAHAHAHAH!

The PLAN is working. MINI design will soon take over the world!!!

Note to Mazda designers: Remember to deposit into the Swiss Bank Account. I will consider your obligation paid in full. You can use my MINI anytime.

MUAHAHAHAHAH!

What struck me with this one wasn't the exterior. It was the interior. I swear the one shot I saw on the ESPN autoshow special, the gearshift, cupholder and handbrake were taken straight out of the MINI.
