Top Gear's STIG - Revealed!

Fans of Top Gear might want to prepare themselves for another Stig death soon. When "Black Stig" Perry McCarthy revealed himself, Clarkson, Hammond and May offed him. Now, according to the UK's Telegraph, the "White Stig" has apparently ended the mystery, revealing himself as 33 year-old Ben Collins. Collins has raced professionally in everything from NASCAR to LeMans, and most recently served as Agent 007's double for sequences of Quantum of Solace that required fancy wheel work. It's been such a secret for so long, how did the veil of silence come to be broken? Collins himself apparently revealed his day job to the owner of an art gallery in Bristol, England when asking for help producing a limited-edition print of The Stig plying his trade.

D3m0N Jan 20, 2009 09:40 AM

whats next Grey stig?

Fatherdeth Jan 20, 2009 09:40 AM

Well, who knows, maybe we'll get a green Stig now !!!

nabeshin Jan 20, 2009 01:10 PM

Maybe it's a hoax. Like, he just said he was the Stig for more leverage with that museum guy.

Either way, they should keep him. It won't ruin the show if we know who he is. Besides, they won't find a better driver.

The next STIG will be PURPLE!

And if they don't like purple, maybe one of these colors will be more to their liking:

It opens the STIG up to having prejudice, removes the impartiality of it all. I'm sure there is a TVR that can go up in flames somewhere.

And the White STIG was faster than black STIG so the next STIG I'm sure can handle a quicker lap.

BBC if Lewis Hamilton is busy with all that F1 rubbish, I'm looking for a new day job:nod:

I would like to see the next Stig be blue....Lightning Blue. But I am bias.

Chili Red Stig... with a black helmet.

Seriously though, this is sad... maybe he's just the stig's fat American cousin!

Maybe the new one can actually make the Veyron go faster than the Zonda F.

The Stig's driving sequences are one of my favorite parts of the show.
The Stig being a mysterious figure and the jokes which go a long with it are important to the segment as much as the driving. So I see the show having to deal with the problem somehow. I like this Stig but if there is a new one, I want him to be black and white checkerboard.

tc-mini Jan 21, 2009 09:48 AM

Well, we shouldn't worry about what will become of the Stig if he does have to leave Top Gear. We know that he knows Italian, understands Morse Code, and has a large collection of Elton John CD's. I'm sure he will be able to find gainful employment in another field.

The Stig was revealed again last night. Just in case you didn't see it yet, I won't say who but let me go on record saying that I think there are many Stigs.

nabeshin Jun 22, 2009 05:16 PM

There is only one Stig. Unless all the guys acting as him use the same steering and shifting technique, as well as the same drive line, brake & throttle zones, etc.

Considering that the top drivers in most racing series are able to essentially duplicate the lap times of each other in similar cars, it stands to reason that they are all very closely following the same racing lines along with braking and throttle points. As far as, "steering and shifting technique", I'd like to hear more about your observations as to how they are unique to The Stig compared to other top-tier drivers. :)

nabeshin Jun 23, 2009 06:32 AM

Nuuuuuu.... Stigy, my driving hero... (T-T)

Bigshot Jun 23, 2009 07:08 AM

There are many Stig's, and there will continue to be many Stig's.
The last one was one was there simply to get the new FXX around the test track.

izzyj Jun 23, 2009 07:22 AM

Thats not the stig!

The only way that top gear could get a Ferrari FXX on their track was to have an owner drive it there, who better than Michael Schumacher? He is not really the stig since he talked about getting use to the track, and at the end Jeremy Clarkson talks about how he "maybe isint the stig". There are rumors that they have multiple stigs so he might have done some work. Since Ferrari keeps the FXX in their garages and only lets the owners of the car drive them they got Schumi to make an apperance and destroy the power lap times.

tgs91 Jun 23, 2009 07:25 AM

I just saw a video on Motoring Alliance with Michael Schumacher claiming Stig status
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...-The-Stig.html

Will the REAL STIG please stand up!

STLMINI Jun 23, 2009 09:32 AM

I think it's fair to assume that all the Stigs are professional racing drivers and all know the best line around the track and how to shift.

There's no conclusive evidence that would discount a multiple Stig theory.

I also agree with you, izzy, about the FXX.
