Friday I went to 76 and juiced up on some 100 octane, it was $6.08, the premium was $4.08 in south San Jose Ca.
Wow! I haven't seen octane that high since the days when Sunoco gas stations used to sell racing fuel right at the pump.
You would dial in the type octane you wanted and they had about 5 different amounts to choose from.
Now the highest I can get around where I live is 93 octane.
The L.A area just started breaking the $4 barrier this past week. Did you ever think you would wish for the good old days when gas was only $3 a gallon ?
Last time I checked, racing fuel started around $8.00 for 110 octane, and this was at Laguna Seca. I drove out to the track in my MINI and the idiot light came on when I got there. Since gas stations are few and far between in unincorporated Monterey County, I put the lowest octane they sold, which was 95. A few gallons were around $25. I'm sure it's skyrocketed since then.
4.05 for 93 at a BP station in westport CT. There was a station down the road that wanted "only" 3.81, but then I realized it would have only made about 2 dollars difference.
Gas is so expensive here (in CA bay area) now that there are more and more reports of thieves stealing gasoline out of the tanks. I'm glad my gas cap locks when I lock my car!
I wonder at the speeds people continue to drive.
My mini computer (2004S) shows approx. 31-33 mph at 70 mph but at 55 mph it jumps to 40-43 mpg.
Obviously, if people in California are still driving 80 mph (trust me...they are) then logic would say gas lprices may not yet be high enough!!
What do you guys think?

If I wanted to drive my car 55, I would buy a vespa! If my car isn't going 80+ mph , I'm either dead or pulled over. LOL - higher gas prices mean only one thing .. more mini owners!
Yep, I'm one of those 70-75+ people. I think the only reason I'm not going faster to get where I'm going are road boulders (slower cars) or the fact that if I get caught and get a ticket, my insurance will skyrocket!!!
