Steve McQueen's Ferrari sold.

I just saw that it got 2.31 mil last night at Christies auction in Monterrey. I 'll look for pics but it's a 63 Ferrari Lusso- metallic brown with a saddle tan interior, gift from his first wife and custom ordered-the car not the wife.

Here's some I found from Motortrend when they featured it in the "Classics" mag.

MONTEREY, California (AP) -- A classic Ferrari once owned by Steve McQueen sold for $2.31 million Thursday night at auction.

An anonymous car collector who placed a bid by phone bought the 1963 Ferrari Berlinetta Lusso during an auction that drew 800 people to the Monterey Jet Center and attracted spirited bidding, said Christie's spokesman Rik Pike.

The sale price was greater than the estimated pre-sale price of $800,000 to $1.2 million, Pike said.

"I couldn't be happier for the car and the legacy of Steve McQueen," seller Mike Regalia, who restores cars, said in a telephone interview. "Without his ownership, it never would have received this value."

McQueen, who starred in such 1960s films as "The Great Escape," "Bullitt," "Le Mans" and "The Thomas Crown Affair," got the Ferrari as a gift from his first wife, Neile Adams. The actor, who also raced cars, special-ordered the Lusso's brown metallic paint and beige leather interior.

Regalia, of Thousand Oaks, bought the Lusso about a decade ago and spent hundreds of hours restoring it to pristine condition.

When asked how much he paid for it, Regalia coyly replied: "A new Lexus would cost more than what I paid."

that's a lot of money for a car that doesn't even come with power windows...

Is is just me, or does the picture in post #2 make Steve McQueen look like "Moe" from the Simpsons?

Ha! For sure not one of the best pics of Steve- goofy look, kind of looks annoyed, his jacket is pooched out so it looks like he's got a gut and I think his left arm is in a cast- but the car looks great!

You able to catch any of the weekends festivities?

Sadly, no. I had a project due in computational physics and a mechanics midterm to study for, so I missed out on both the show *and* the Rolex historic car races at Laguna Seca the same weekend.

My commutes to and from school were awesome on Thursday and Friday, though. I pass right by Laguna Seca, so I got to see the classic cars arriving, and I saw a bunch of the cars that were on their way to the show on Friday. Just on the ride home one day, I counted 35 Ferraris and 20 Lamborghinis, not to mention all of the Porsches, Aston Martins, and old Alfa Romeos.

Funny thing, though - I'd never seen a powder-blue Lamborghini before, and you know what? It's not a bad look at all.
