What's the ultimate get-away-with-driving-100mph stealth car?

Prius comes to mind. ::is this the whistling smiley?::

Depends where you are in the country :)

In Orange County (CA), it seems that everyone drive 90+ everywhere all the time and more often than not they are in big/spendy SUV's or well optioned BMW's / Mercedes.

Exactly. Perfect sleeper car if you dad was a VP, and you're holding and all hopped up on dope and pills. Best to leave the windows rolled up, too -- so you can rule out all convertibles....

It'd need a good bumper sticker, like "My other ride is in the back of a police cruiser" or "Speeding? Call USSS, Codename Leary"

I would guess is ain't a blue MINI with Union Jacks all over it... (though so far, so good)...

My vote is split between a Toyota Yaris and a Honda Fit. Can they go 100+?

I just looked at several articles on the Fit. None of them listed the top speed.:sly:

A Ford Focus (that is, if it wasn't bright yellow - dumb rental agency).

Correct - I find that if I even get close to the speed limit I get a CHiP cruiser stuck to my arse......

I always had great stealth in my Volvo V70 wagon and had it over the speed mentioned earlier (but I'm not saying I was breaking any laws that would violate the forum rules-disclaimer over) several times.

My HUGE dark green (stealth green?) Chrysler "mini" van is pretty lucky so far, also... course, V1 has something to do with that...

Oh yeah - and a Fit will go 100mph - when towed by my MINI.

My grey/green Lexus ES 300 is practically invisible - no one looks at it no matter how fast it's going (MFR says top speed is 135, FWIW ) I've never been stopped or even given a sideways glance when driving it. If I wanted to get somewhere really quickly on the superslab, that would be the car I'd take. And there's always the side benefit of it being extremly quiet and comfortable along the way.........

I'd think any Camry, Taurus or other family sedan of which there are already a few billion on the road would work, in a medium to darkish color.........

gokartride Jul 6, 2007 03:21 PM

A VTEC Mini......or a VTEC Geo Metro.

In orange county these are the cars that always seem to be going 100 on freeways-Prias,Yaris,Fit.

There's lots of dull cars that could get away with it, but my vote for the best highway sleeper would be the original Yamaha V6'd Taurus SHO. The steering was pretty loose, but that thing had a wicked cool exhaust note, especially when the engine switched over to the short intake runners.

Oh, the stories of highway-hijinks I had with that car. Not that I ever did (or tried), but you could get away with 141 in that car. Who would ever suspect the Taurus? When the car launched, someone in the press asked why the top speed was so high for a family sedan (in 1989), the powertrain engineer responded, "Well, that's just how the gearing turned out."

My xB will go 100+ mph.

Derek86 Jul 22, 2007 11:52 AM

My Buick is pretty inconspicuous. My vote also goes for pickup trucks of the beat, work truck looking variety. My roommates Diesel F250 has never gotten him pulled over and he drives faster than I do on the highway.

Silver Mercury Marauder. 300 HP and it looks like a well dressed cop car.
