San Fran area Hotel/B&B suggestions for Sept. roadtrip?
Hey you crazy NorCal MINIacs. Looking for some lodging suggestions. I am planning a roadtrip in mid/late Sept. from Denver to San Fran. I am catching a couple A's/Indians games and will be staying 2-3 nights. This will be my first time in the area and am looking for an interesting place to stay. Doesn't need to be near Oakland as I figure I'll take BART or just drive to the games. It's a Wed. night and a Thur. afternoon game so I guess I wouldn't want to be 2 hours away either. Anyone have a favorite B&B or smaller hotel that they would recommend? It's a fairly quick stop and with the two games will have somewhat limited sightseeing time. Indifferent on ocean vs. inland, more interested in a unique place or area to stay as opposed to a big chain hotel downtown. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Hotel Triton is one of my favourites

It's in SF right outside the Chinatown gates, gives you easy access to Union Square (shopping), Chinatown (what else, Chinese food), North Beach (kick *** Itallian food and cafes). I know that you're going to be there mainly for the baseball games, but the restaurants and night life in SF are not to be missed. Plus it's a great city just to walk around and wander through.
It's quirky and reasonably priced. The rooms are not huge, but really cozy and the decor is interesting to say the least.
Free wine happy hour every afternoon with Tarot card readings and massages in the lobby.
Don't know if you want to stay all the way in the city as you'll mainly be catching games across the bay in Oakland. But Bart pretty makes it a non issue in terms of getting over to Oakland. It likely would take you 2-3 times as long to get there by car after factoring in traffic and parking than just to walk to the Bart and go that way.
Have fun,
Dave

I think they have changed hands since we were there last. They used to be part of the 'Four Sisters' group, and I see now that they aren't. No matter, we will still stay there on SF visits. Close to everything, right on Bush St. Close to the Cable Car lines. We get a pass for 3 days and cruise the Cable Cars/Buses/Trolleys. No need to rent a car.
Note, it is quite expensive to put the car up for the night. Last time we were there I think it would cost us $35 to store it over night. We rented a car for the day and had it back before the rental place closed so we didn't have those charges.
Something different and charming. Small (like your car), but functional. In the heart of Union Square (lots of shopping and food). Indoor parking is one and a half block away, $25 per day, and pretty safe. We've stayed here twice and recommend it.
