LI Meet: Brooklyn to Montauk or Just Roundabout _ TBD
*** Update - RobFriedman is putting together a meet as soon as you all are willing***
I've got some roads on the East End that merit some attention. Even July 4 they were desolate and MINI worthy. Imagine September 21 or October 12. Quick, point out a conflict before it's solid.
Serious colaberation needed. LI is not my home turf, though I know it well. Maybe legs of the journey there and back arranged by different people? We could drop some people at Orient Point and Port Jeff and continue on back to NYC.
Fall is a very busy time but there's not too much happening down south. What do you say? Rob Friedman? Minime s? Suprchrgdmini? Arnel? MINI of the Hamptons (one of the best all time american MINI dealers)? Others I know but am not thinking of right now? Anyone? Bueller?
Heck, at the very least a simple to and from could be arranged. Never the same road.

How'd I guess that GMINI would be the author of this thread?
Count me in. Let's start talking about some possible dates.
How would it be to start at Coney Island? It's equally desolate in the fall.

Hey guys,
Sounds like a great idea for a meet! I'm not sure if I'd be down for it (quite a hike for me), but I have one fervent suggestion to make, roadwise. It's called Northwest Road, in Easthampton, and it is definitely one of the top 3 MINI roads I have ever seen. There's one section that's probably less than a mile, but the road twists and dips around sharply, steeply, and completely pointlessly, and is very very fun. It's worth going out of your way for! From 27 (which I assume you won't be taking much!), it is reached via Stephen Hands Path and Old Northwest Road, and it dumps you out onto Alewive Brook Road.
Anyway, once there's a date I'll think about coming down!

>>oooooh now this is a meet I simply could not avoid!
Why? Would we be going through your backyard?
I'm delighted at the instantanious response. Let there be a date! This usally involves checking some calendars and bouncing the dates around in forum. Rather painstaking. But hey. There's no stopping us. I do not want to conflict with the forming SE CT meet - I wanna be there myself.

Awww Nomo. Just hop the ferry to BI from Point Judith, then ride the ferry to Montauk from the other side of the island. We'll meet you there!!!! (oops- no cars on the Montauk bound).
Besides. That school seems to keep people kinda busy on weekends.

It's been a real long time since I've drove the streets of LI
it seems that you all are planning a long run, from one end of the island to the other. growing up in Oyster Bay, use to go to Cold Spring Harbor and drive what we called back then "Snake Hill" it would be a great place to test your MINI
But then again it's been 18 years since I relocated.
Oops!, I'm telling my age
Just thought it would be a nice "try" to put into the route.(easy, no fender benders!)
Hope you guys don't mind me butting in, but couldn't resist! thinking back of the days, running around with my MGB.

well practicaly, but for the fact that I do live in brooklyn so I don't really have a backyard! I just meant that it's so close and so tempting I couldn't possibly find an excuse to pass it up. I had really wanted to do the litchfield run, but it was soo far away and I didn't have the time to spare. This meet sounds great though, especially since my boyfriend and I are always wanting to drive the MINI when we're bored, but we don't know of any fun roads around here. I'm assuming I'll actually learn something from this litle get together.
Let's talk dates! 28th of Sep. or maybe the 5th of Oct.???????? Anyone......Anyone.....

Sounds GREAT to me. And taking the cross island early in the morning to that awesome cloverleaf connecting it to the southern state is my favorite run near you. But I also love jamming down the Williamsburg Bridge's underside. Heck, that tunnel ain't half bad - Battery that is. As for dates, Katiedid, seems you have a boyfriend and you didn't make an appearance at litchfield so..
Nah. Really. Those dates are cool with me. Both. I haven't checked them against available MINI calendars - but will anon. Soon. Pronto. As we read and write. Like which will we pick, if either?
Oh - and what is your employment (is it designish)- I've always loved you sig.

You're welcome. And the twenty-eighth is now our unofficial date (see the top). The sooner we get that sorted, the better!

GMINIO,
You mentioned COOPERfest in NJ the week-end of 5 October. I've not seen a thread anywhere on that one. Where are the details, Roadfly?
I'm assuming this is a 1-day event?? Out and back in the same day??
Hmmmm..... Never been to Montauk.... Long drive from Philadelphia.....
Let me work on that one!
Cheers.

Oh boy another VW meet, this time in San Diego!

How's the 21st sound? As both the 28th and 5th are sacred by the Hebrew calendar. Oct 12th is possible as well.
