Nav updates for 2011 Countryman
My dealership says that I can download map updates for my car for free from miniusa.com. I can't find anything like that. One of the "sales points" is that this is updateable via USB by owners and you don't have to go to the dealership. I have googled and have found nothing.
They do sell map updates for the DVD-based versions, but not the SSD-based systems. The maps that came with my mini are at least 3 years old. I am very disappointed because all the exits for the freeways have moved (in 2008) and my maps are wrong. Any ideas? Thanks. Brian |
I've never heard of any in dash unit having free updates, so I'd get that in writing.
Here is where you could potentially get updates from: http://www.mini.com/connectivity/ |
Bump. Anyone know about the usb updates?

No pull down for the Countryman, and if you select a different model you just end up with "Please contact your local dealer to purchase your map updates."
|
Options, including navigation, premium Harman-kardon audio, leather and wheel packages, and park-distance control, are plentiful and can increase the base price $15,000 or more.

Has anyone bought the 2013 navigation updates? $225 now and looks like it upgrades via USB now.

I wonder if the dealer has the two confused. |
I just ordered mine as well....as I have started to travel more for my business.
It's the latest update: 2013. You purchase the USB mini drive, supply them with your vin and a download code is ordered. Should have that by Tuesday. As mentioned previously should be straight forward as the recent free connected update i did via your own USB. I'm told once the purchased Nav loaded USB has been downloaded, you can wipe it clear and you it as you wish..... Won't work with another mini as its code/vin restricted. $260.... For your own personalized USB.... With updated maps Motor On:thumbsup: |
Hi, Will this work on a 2009? I have an USB port
|
I believe the 2009 models have the DVD based navigation, which I wouldn't think would work via USB, but don't know that for sure. My 2008 was....but did not have it in the USB Nav. era. I will be picking my code up tomorrow or Tuesday, I'd be happy to ask and let you know!
|
Updated the Nav. system yesterday w/o any issues via the USB port in the glove box not the rail. Approx. a 50 minute D/L. No major changes on the outside…screen might of changed it's look a bit. Have yet to use it in detail…will travel later this week. See if it's worth the $260.
JPMM, When I picked up my NAV Update yesterday asked service about the updates…they indicated it was for models 2011 or late 2010 and up. Sorry:sad: |
If I have connected and downloaded the map update would it install the nav software onto connected and would it work? Im sure Im missing some hardware components but would be interesting if it could be added.

Thanks again dracon! I can find my house now!

$260 for updates?? That seems excessive considering google maps for your phone, lifetime updates for garmin devices etc... What are they thinking???

It's not just Mini. My husband's SatNav in his VW has a similar system, but his updates via sd card with a vin specific update.
The real cost of the FSC code itself, which is about $200-225 from the dealership. Or they can be obtained via aftermarket online sellers for a fraction of that cost, the BMW owner crowd have been updating that way for quite some time. Mini uses the same maps as a lot of the BMW Business Navigation systems called the MOVE maps. |
worth it?

Just did the 2014 update to her car not that long ago. My dad kinda wishes now he had ordered the navigation with his JCW now. :) |

My mom seems to think so. I've been keeping her Navigation updated since she bought it. Just did the 2014 update to her car not that long ago. My dad kinda wishes now he had ordered the navigation with his JCW now. :)

That's how they get you to come back every year and drop $200-300! |

Yes, the way BMW/Mini designs the system is that it requires a new code for each map year. FSC codes are based on the VIN+Map Region+Year. That's how they get you to come back every year and drop $200-300!

Can you generate new code if I give you the VIN NR?
However, I'm not permitted to discuss the direct generation of FSC codes publicly on the board (The moderators have dinged me once for it, and I don't wish to knowingly break the forums rules). |
Oh sorry did not know :(

However, outside of all that stuff, I can help with vehicle coding and such too, if you have the cable and the software. There's been a good discussion on NAM about it, but a little behind the BMW crowd, especially with the new F-series Minis coming up which requires a whole new suite of software and new cables. I usually check my email more often than the message boards, so if you need help shoot me an email at dracon@gmail.com |
