A Little cOnfuSEd...Subwoofer and Amp...

(I searched and came up with nothing)

I would like to beef up my sound system. I really dont know what I need to do. I am one step from clueless. I would just like a sub in the back without losing too much space. Any ideas? Help is much apprecieated. Like I said, I know next to nothing.

I have a 2005 MCSa With H/K stero system.

TIA!

I know I dropped this in the other thread for you, but for anyone else that swings this way. Here are some helpful links.

Is there a quicker, just "tap the wire" mod?

You could always just add a 10" Bazooka, they sound good and are small and pretty lightwieght. They also have the amp built in so its a clutterfree installation.

It depends what you mean by "tap the wire".

The difficulty with the H/K is that the signal sent from the HU to the amp in back is a digital one. So there is no way you could tap one of those line unless you put an amp with a DSP in your trunk (which I don't even think they make for an auto). The only true audio lines come off of the H/K amp, and the only way to reach those is either get at the amp like I did, or take apart your side panels and get the signal closer to the speakers.

Think of the H/K like your home theater. If you wanted to get audio from one of the lines, you wouldn't grab the signal from the optical wire (or COAX) from the DVD player to the stereo, you'd have to grab the signal from out of the stereo. The H/K amp is essentially a 8 channel digital stereo (Front - Right and Left - Lows and Highs/ Rear - Right and Left - Lows and Highs) with the HU being the DVD player.

It's not as big of a pain in the butt as it looks, it'll take you about an hour of monkeying around.

If by "tap the wire" you mean just mooch off an audio line and put it directly into a sub speaker... then the answer is no. You'd overload the amp and you wouldn't get much sound from that speaker either.

Does that help at all?
