Aux inpu miniplug cable?

I know I saw a post for this somewhere in here, but now I can't find it.

I'm wondering if anyone has found a good source somewhere for a good quality 1/8" to 1/8" mini plug stereo cable (ipod to aux input)?

All the ones I find for sale are 6' or longer, which is a rediculous amount of cable to be spooled around inside the car. I guess I could splice the wire, but I'd rather just find a good quality cable that's only about 6" to 12" long.

Any ideas?

You mentioned good quality, so far none of the options listed are what I would call high quality (although they are probably adequate for most people). Here is a source of cables from a company that sells high quality headphones and makes headphone amps
http://www.headphone.com/products/ca...interconnects/
I've spent a lot of money there (mostly on headphones) and they have very high quality 1/8" to 1/8" patch cables in various lengths from $10 to over $100.

Actually any 1/8" to 1/8" cable isn't the best way to go for sound quality. What you want is a true line out that bypasses the ipod's amp; the only way you're going to get that is to get a cable that goes from the docking port of the ipod to a 1/8" stereo jack. The sound quality with this setup will be significantly better than using a 1/8" to 1/8" jack through the headphones.

There are a couple of ways to do this--Monster and SIK make a car charger with a true line out, as do a few other companies (Belkin's has an amp in it though; this defeats the purpose of the line out--don't get a car charger with an amp, you might as well use the headphone jack). These are bit cumbersome, as you've got to plug in to the lighter and into your stereo, but functional.

If you want a cable without the charger, you can get something like this--pocket dock with line out:
http://www.sendstation.com

This comes with a six foot cable, but you can buy a shorter one seperately.

These are more expensive options, but if you're after the best sound, either one of the above is the way to go.

If you're going to use the headphone port, any 1/8 to 1/8 jack will do--just get the cheapest one from radio shack--you're not going to be able to notice the difference between this cable and a more expensive cable. You will notice a difference if you use a cable that works through the dock port though.

I use a zu pivot (mini to mini) cable (www.zucable.com) from my sik car charger to the aux input. They don't have a 6" cable listed on their site but I'm sure you can order that length since all their cable are made to order.

I assumed if he was asking about a quality cable he wasn't going to be going through the headphone jack. I've got the sendstation pocket dock for my iPod, and there is a noticeable improvement over the headphone out.

I'm using the monster car charger now in my SUV, with the true line out, but once I get my aux/in installed in my Mini (hopefully this weekend), I'm getting the sendstation pocket dock too. There definitely is a noticeable improvement with the line out; I'll bet it will even be more noticeable in the mini with the H/K than in my SUV, which has an ok stereo....The pocket dock is a bit pricey, but given the improvement in sound quality, it's worth it to me. I'll probably order one of those shorter cables you put in that link to go with it.

Yep, that's exactly why I bought the belkin car adapter. It feeds electricity from the 12v to a dock connector on the ipod. it also uses the 12v feed to drive an internal line-level amp with a 1/8" mini plug socket. since that socket is really close the aux input, i'll only need a 6" cable. the cable that goes to the dock connector is much longer, so i can still put the ipod wherever.

Well, I have both monster car charger and pocket dock, honestly I can't tell a difference between feeding the audio system through the headset port and the line out port. I tried them on both the H/K system and my home theater 6.1 system, with some 320k mp3s. Though I still prefer using the line out to avoid the need for volume adjustment on ipod, and for the peace of mind

Woops..

I missed in the post that the monster cable line-out is so much better than the belkin?

I don't understand why that is. Yes the belkin has an 'amp', but is that not just to get the appropriate line level?

The belkin output sounds 10x better than the headphone jack and prevents me from accidentally f'ing up the sound when touching the scroll wheel.

Is the pocketdock or the Monster line-out all that much better? seems like the pocket dock would be less useful since it doesn't recharge the ipod..??

I don't understand why belkin added an amp, the line out level from ipod should be capable of driving any standard amps, may be it's intented for a headphone?

Part of the reason I questioned audio quality difference of the line out vs headphone is that I don't believe Apple put a crappy amp in the end for the headphone port, since headphone requires such little power it's so easy on the amp, which shouldn't add a significant amount of distortion.

Of course congrats if you can hear the difference and be happy with the line out port.

I bought the pocket dock before monster adaptor, since I have the later the pocket dock has been collecting dust. I need to sell it on ebay.

I had the Belkin and the Monster--on a good stereo, the difference between the Belkin and Monster was noticeable, but not huge; I gave the Belkin away and kept the Monster. The better the stereo, the more noticeable it's going to be. Personally the Sik looks even better, but it came out after the Monster, so I haven't bought it. I'm going to get the pocket dock for the Mini, mainly because it's so small; I don't need to charge in the Mini (I take longer trips in my SUV, which has the Monster).

The thing with the pocket dock is I really only need the dock connection and a line out--I wish someone made this combination, it should be a relatively cheap cable, but I haven't found one as of yet. I only need the dock connector and the line out--I don't need the USB or Firewire connection.

Ok, this may be a possiblility:

http://www.mp3mall.net/mp3/Nyko_STER...D_Accessories/

This should work--I'll have to get a female stereo connector to a 1/8" jack, but that's easy enough, I can do that setup cheaper than the pocket dock. Have to think about it. Still wish there was a direct dock to 1/8" line out setup (without an added USB or Firewire port), if anyone knows of one, please post! It's frustrating, as the cable would probably be priced at 15 bucks or so, and would work great.

I'll be running the HK system - not the greatest in the world but decent enough. (I'll probably eventually end up upgrading the system.. but that's a ways off.. probably a sub first)

yes if you use the line out port only. The pocketdoc basically consists of bunch of wires which directly connect the mini jacket socket to the line out pin on the Ipod. I don't believe there are any chips inside pocketdoc.

you may lose control if Ipod is connected to a computer through USB or Firewire port.

In case you're wondering, here is a layout of Ipod dock port. Pin 3/4 is for line out.

Since you don't need inline power, this page offers plenty of choices,

will this one cut the deal? costs 9 bucks

This is where I got my stereo cable (posted a while back in another thread):

http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cg...item/SP-SPSC-7

- it's an 8" in the link but go up one level and I think they have 6" listed.... works nicely.

Hey, that's pretty cool! I'm a little hesitant on what the quality is for a "ziplinq" product, tho...

Has anybody used these?

WOW it costs $13 just to ship it (UPS Ground)...total is like $22.00. Did anybody find a different place to buy it? It's so dumb that shipping and handling costs more than the product:impatient :impatient .

better deal with resonable shipping charge.
http://www.macmall.com/macmall/searc...=ZIP-AUDIO-IP1

this one is pricer, but you may buy more junkies to take advantage of free shipping.
