Yup, I’m rocking some old school BT in my 2006 JCW with HK audio. It was installed shortly after purchase by previous owner. Can’t seem to stream phone music, I do have the user manual, but still nothing. I know I can update this whole thing but I kinda like having a relic, it’s period correct. Plus I prefer supercharger sound more than loud music, but still would like to hear stuff from my phone. Chime in if you are familiar with this dinosaur.

I am going to guess that your "old school BT" only supports the Hands-free Profile (called HFP). Which means it only supports sound from a phone call. Back in 2006, that was one of the few BT profiles that existed.

To support listening to music, you need at least the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (called A2DP)

I have seen, for sale, an adapter that connects up as if it was an external CD player, and can make your phone looks like that to the headunit (radio). Here is a link to just one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Stereo-...-/121543173554

If you are interested in the various BT profiles that exist today, you can see the list at List of Bluetooth profiles - Wikipedia.

Actually the user manual states that it can stream music from a phone (has A2DP profile) And it was installed at the dealership. I know there was an additional kit that allowed the call phone calls to play thru the HK system, thus eliminating the auxiliary speaker (which mine has) And also allows the use of audio control on steering wheel to be used. Haven’t had a lot of time to play around with it, but I’m pretty sure the additional wiring kit was not used. Anyhow, here’s the manual which plainly states the unit can stream audio from phone. I may have been pushing the wrong button, it’s a kind of confusing system compared to present day systems. Gonna give it one more shot before the car goes into hibernation until spring.
