Watch it Gumby. Keep your political proclivities to yourself. We don't need to go down that road on a car forum.

Now you're turning into a troll.
Godwins law will soon come into play?

All Im saying is that speakers "break in" the moment it moves.

Way to ruin a decent thread gumbedamit needing to measure your speaker e-peen and insulting others. Move on since you are not adding anything to this thread of value.

I offered a lot to this post until I was insulted.. I don't see you adding anything other than continuing the stupidity.....

I don't know why I am wading into this but here goes... Paul Barton is the founder and lead designer at PSB Loudspeakers. Perhaps more importantly, Paul and Floyd Toole were the two lead engineers for the NRC listening experiments in the late 70s and through the 80s. This was the largest double blind listening experiment ever completed. As such, Paul likely has more direct speaker/human interface experience than any other designer working today (Dr. Toole has since retired). Paul told me fairly emphatically that loudspeakers do not break in, rather our perception is what breaks in. Additionally, loudspeaker diaphragms are designed to have very tight tolerances, to to allow for break in would mean that it was out of specification to begin with and we are crossing our fingers that it breaks in to the correct value. Just food for thought.

Also I love my MINI (just to keep this slightly on topic)

Okay. I've got a pair of Realistic Minimus bookshelf speakers in my home office. Purchased them brand new from Radio Shack over 50 years ago. (Remember Radio Shack??) They came with a "lifetime" warranty. They went to my college dorm with me in 1971 along with my photocell-driven, triac-activated home brew color organ that made lights pulsate with the music.

And they're still cranking -- actually deliver very good sound.

Wonder if they're broken in yet.....

I've never really been able to tell the difference, but always give people the benefit of the doubt on the mechanical aspects of a speaker. But 200 hours seems a bit extreme. I've read of speaker designers who talk about 10-40 hours or so, but who knows?

I can't tell the difference if my mid-fi home speakers have been broken in. I must be tone deaf. Sorry, I haven't invested in the oxygen-free 0 gauge speaker wires, and I have no idea what skin effect is for audio spectrum.

Sorry, I can't help it for this forum, as well as all other forums, are so dead.

Vetsvette ....you mentioned about tuning the HK and SCV ....what is SCV ?

thanks

also about speaker break in vs 'your ears doing the adjusting' ...was not super enthralled with the HK at first but gradually now like it...so not sure if my speakers adjusted or if I adjusted to them .....although i wish there was more soundstage with vocals ....my old standard non-hk system with upgraded speakers on my '04 MC had more soundstage if that is the proper term,...the vocalists seemed to be more upfront or out front

Speed volume control, as you go faster the volume adjusts to compensate. Should be in settings.
