Any way to play video not using Apple Device?

The video playback entry in the owners manual for my 2013 R57 states "Video playback is only possible with an IPod or Iphone." Is that correct, or is there a way to have the system recognize and play back video files that are on a USB drive? Asking because I have used the HK system in my Mini to play music files off a USB drive and want to see if it's possible to do the same thing with video files.

I'm also asking because Mini owners manuals have been known to contain errors about the entertainment systems. An infamous for the 2nd gens is in the USB playback section, where the text states one can "store approximately 26,000 tracks in the vehicle." That is misleading, in that it implies you can upload that many music files into some sort of digital storage space in the vehicle and access them without the USB drive being plugged in. In actuality, all the vehicle stores is the track information, not the actual audio files, so your USB drive has to be plugged in to play your music,

And lastly, yes, I understand that the software in our Minis is programmed to only allow video files to be played if the vehicle is stationary.
