Sirius radio for 2005 Mini Cooper S - Help

So I was reading on the thread that 2003 or new are setup for the Sirius satellite radio. I haven't been able to pull the esn or radio id off mine and have tried everything. When I punch my VIN it I get : the vehicle associated with the VIN you entered is not equipped with a satellite radio. I also have the Mini GPS Navigation system in the middle of my dash. Will this affect my GPS?

At this point I don't know what else to do . A friend of mine already has a receiver and antenna but I don't want him to try to install this if it wont work. Does Mini have a special one I need to buy and the dealer installs it?

You have to have the separate SIRIUS tuner module which would be located in the hatch area behind one of the side panels. Until those are installed, it won't give you a radio id, esn or even recognize satellite as an option. I can't be sure, but I think those parts are NLA (No Longer Available) from MINI.

That being said, I believe there was no official way to have both navigation and SIRIUS (primarily due to conflicts with the satellite antennas), but some people have made it work.

We would have to see your buddy's receiver and antenna to have any chance of figuring out if it will work in your car.

So I just hung up the phone with Sirius and they told me I could pick from these models and it would feed off my radio. Seems too simple!

Where would you place the unit?

I purchased an OEM unit from a user on NAM, haven't had time to install it yet, but it connects to the existing OEM HK system and is placed in the rear boot panel. Once it does get installed you can just use your OEM head unit to control. When I first read your post, thought you had the unit already. I think I payed about $100.

It looks like the docking station clips in by the air conditioning vents or wherever you place the docking station

SO, in the summer you'll freeze it and the winter you're burn the crap out of the unit. That's why I looked for an OEM unit, do you have the HK system?

lmao - that's true. No I don't have a HK sound system. I have someone that can install it but trying to find which model to get so I don't have to get the one with the docking station seems to be the issue.

I used one of those plug and play units in my first MINI. I mounted it to a Kuda media console that mounts to the dash, just above the speedo (nav display in your case). I am using a similar console in my current MINI for my Galaxy S7.

I would offer/advise/recommend never, ever believing a word that comes out of a Sirius rep's mouth. This is the company that will make a spectacular-sounding offer for their service, but then there is a note about "plus fees, etc." The "fees" they speak of are music royalty fees that THEY are supposed to pay, not the end user. This is akin to going through a drive-through and ordering a $1.99 burger, then getting charged and extra .15 cents for the box to put it in.

Sirius is quite simply a shady company that bought out its competition so that they could charge ridiculous money (to pay for Stern, but I digress...) All of that said, if they would send me an honest offer that didn't sneak in my paying for their royalty fees, I might jump on it. (I do have the SiriusXM module plugged into my current vehicle HU - but not using it.) But the way they do business now... they're just dishonest.

Sorry. /rant

There must be one out there that will work. The dealer quoted me two grand for doing it which there's no way in hell im paying.

Here is a link to a used unit, I don't know if it works for a NON-HK system, you will need to research that. If it does, about $200 all in and a few hours work, and you'll be good to go..

So I found this link for installing and part #'s. Now my question is where to we get the damn antenna as it looks like it's discontinued. The installation package I can get on ECS 84110150534 but they don't carry the antenna kit any longer 84110150524. Thanks for the help, dying to put Lithium on my satellite radio!

Thats the old kit, yes thats it. They discontinued the antenna kit.

All i can think of is to get the LP sirius antenna 65200034887 from the antenna system. But then you will need that other wire to tap to the box. I will see if i can find the individual parts.

Which route have you decided to take, If you go with the OEM install, please keep me informed as to what you will do. I have tons of projects that are above this radio installation. You appear to be on an active track for getting it installed. Please share which route you have decided to take, thanx
