Updating IPOD Adaptor in 2005 MCS

Hey NAM,

Wondering if anyone has updated their OEM IPOD Adaptor to accommodate new IPOD/IPHONE. I can plug an IPHONE 4S into the cable and listen to Pandora and playlists (e.g. using Mini1, Mini2, etc). I can also listen to my IPOD Touch, but they don't charge which isn't a major problem.

I recently purchased an IPHONE 5, and tried to plug the adaptor that converts from the old Apple connector to the new lightning connector. It was a no-go and it didnt play anything. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this? Can the IPOD module be swapped out with a new one or do I have to swap it out for a new IPOD unit.

FYI - I tried searching through the IPOD discussions and haven't seen anything specific to this. Was going to stop by the Mini Dealer to see what they had for options.

I spoke to the Mini Dealer, and they are working to catch up with the new IPHONE 5. They have nothing available for the new product. They are saying that it would be at least 6 to 8 months before they have something available. I didn't want to replace my factory radio, but this may now be an option to use the newer IPHONE. Unless some other folks have options, even after market it would be helpful. I am looking at the USA SPEC, or DICE as possible options to keep the factory radio in place.

Have had luck with our 06 with NAV and HK.

Bought this adapter:
http://store.apple.com/xc/product/MD824ZM/A to use with OEM iPod adapter.

It doesn't charge my iPhone 5 but does play whatever audio I'm playing on phone (music, pandora, Sirius, Spotify).

Took a while to try different sequences of turning on audio, then connecting cable, then switching source on head unit.

Presets on head unit change ipod playlists even if you're listening to other audio source so I just connect and then use iPhone to change tracks.

Not elegant but audio quality great.

Old thread I know but what I did with my '06 JCW is I have the factory cable, you have to get an adapter that changes the pins for the new 30 ping connector so it can charge the iphone, then I got an 30 pin to lightning connector.

so 2 adapters, 30 pin adapter to change the old pins to allow charging with new 30 pins and then a 30 pin to lightning.

It works fine, been using it since I got my 5s Oct '13. (worked fine for 2 years with my 4s with the 30 pins).

Me, i'm looking for a new cable from mini or after market that goes from the back of the original head unit that is a lightning connector.

Hey Crank

Honestly I don't know the name but I just Googled the adapter and bought it on amazon or eBay...

Apple changed the power pin on the 30pin connector from the 3/3GS to the 4/4s so I found an adapter that changes the pins from old 30pin to new 30pin and that charged my 4s fine. Then the 30pin to lightning works right on the 30pin adapter.

When I get in my mini I will try and remember to look to see the name of that's embossed on the adapter.

But if you google old 30pin to new 30pin adapter and you should find something. It works like a charm. On the long side but it works.

Forget all those adapters!

Get a MediaBridge, it gives full display of the song info, can be controlled from the steering wheel controls and best of all.

WORKS with a USB connection so you plug in a standard USB to lightning cable (the one that came with your phone)

This uses the old 30 pin circuitry to lightning.

Nice. Thanks guys! Looks like I have a couple of options here and I was about to give up on it.

Glad to help. My way is cheap and it works with the factory radio and all that. The other way should work too just a lot more expensive.

Keep us posted!

Sorry its been a few days but I was going to order this and it said that it didn't transfer audio to a dock. Wouldn't that be the same with our cars? Looking aroudn wouldn't I need something like this? If its just using the audio jack will I end up loosing the ability to control my Iphone via the head unit? Possibly but atleast I'll be able to use the factory set up and charge my phone. What are your thoughts on this?

BeOSKid 05-13-2014 01:21 PM

Maybe so.

This isn't the model that I got but should do the same thing. Change the power pins and then adapter to lightning. Mine works flawlessly

On amazon, search for this.
