I understand one is Alpine and the other is VDO, any other differences, EG MP3 CD, phone audio support, aux in etc?

Thanks!

No functional difference that I know of. I identify the lower one as a 'euro' unit. Have one in my car and it seems to function the same as the 'V1' unit pictured.

Thanks for the reply!

Do you use any of the 'advanced' features, such as MP3 CD, aux in or telephone?

I think there is actually 3...
Earliy radio's did not do mp3's....then v2 added it...then the manufacturers switched if i recall...but functionally the same....one diff is earlier radio's have an antitheft code..
You can tell which one of tge tgree by the volume knob....the size of it changed in each version.

As I understand it (and I'm pretty new) the Alpine CD53 changed in about 2004 to add MP3 CD support, and the change was a software change.

The CD53 suffered from not being able to display caller ID from the still-born factory phone ULF.

The VDO came along in 2006, I don't know if it was a cost reduction or if there were changes to allow support for Caller ID from the ULF, if the undocumented MP3 support in the Alpines was removed and if there were quality changes moving away from Alpine.

I have the aux-in. Given that, never found the need to try an MP3. :)
No phone, either.
