All 2013 Mini Bluetooth Downgraded

Purchased my 2013 Clubman S (no navigation) on Friday. Paired my phone to the Bluetooth ; however could not get the voice commands to work. No response of any kind from voice command button on steering wheel. Asked for help on forum under Newby needs help with bluetooth. Followed manual to the letter as well as the Mini online help site. Still could not get it to work. Called local mini service department to set up appointment. Service advisor stated that all minis except those with navigation have no capabilities for voice command. He stated because of poor quality of system Mini Removed voice command capabilities and I was told to use my phone to dial or call out. There is no mention of this in Owners Manual and the online help still gives directions for voice command. I find it hard to believe that Mini would remove this feature (I consider this to be a safety issue) without mentioning it on the new car sticker, the owners manual, online help site or via the sales staff. Anyone with more information regarding this issue would be appreciated.

I got a 2012 Countryman last week which still has the voice dialing feature and it really isn't what you imagine it would be.

You have to program each name and number into the stereo. This doesn't mean connecting it to an existing contact. You record a name and type in the number you want to associate with it.

There's no integration to the phone's contact lists. If you have an iPhone you'll get a lot better mileage from just using Siri, which integrates with the Bluetooth pretty well. (At least that's my opinion from my limited time with it.).

I'd expect what Mini has in mind might be making the button act to activate Siri (something Apple is calling Eyes Free).

So, while it is annoying having a button on the steering wheel that does nothing, those of us with the button are most likely not ever going to use it.

Annoying yes, but hopefully hearing that it really isn't great will help temper your annoyance.
