Line Out Converter and other speaker questions

OKay,

After some much Googling and researching, I get that I need a Line Out Converter to add an external amp to my '02 MCS NON-HK system - which has no pre-amp output.

The car is 10 years old, but would like to freshen up the speakers with some Infinity's components in the front and rear, but absolutely need to keep the stock head unit because I like my radio to match the MINI's quirky interior.

I just want to amp up the four speakers in the car so what type of Line Out Converter do I need? 2, 4, 6, channel? Are the channels related to the amount of speakers going in to the LOC or is that related to the amount of accessories going out, i.e. amp?.

I'm a bit confused on equipment requirements and specs, but pretty good with wiring and soldering.

cool. would the 4 ch. LOC have only one RCA output to the 4 ch. amp?

yes, I have the tweets. I was going to put components up front.

I was looking at Infinity's because i've had great experiences with them on past cars.

ok... no the 4 channel LOC should have 4 Rca's coming off of it 2f 2r then just plug those bad boys in at the amp set the gains and jam out.. FYI you might have to turn the pots on the LOC pretty much all the way up to get proper preout voltage to drive the amp to full power

I have a MTX ReQ. It's a line out converter that also does some signal correction. It has RCA outputs for front, rear, and sub. I have been very happy with it. JL Audio also makes one called the Cleansweep that is supposed to be good.
