Hey guys... I plan on buying my wife a new Cooper (not sure if I'm going to get the MCS) for her 30th birthday in 11 months.... I haven't been to the dealer yet but have been researching it on the internet and talked to one of the salesman over the phone.

I have one question. I plan on getting the Nav system... but does that change the configuration of the speedometer in the middle? Does anyone have a pic of their interior with a nav system?

Thanks for your help. I love this website. Can't wait until we're MC owners.

Dr.

Welcome to NAM. Here is a pic with the alloy patina interior and Lapis blue leather. Hope this helps.

Thanks dgsz! It is Interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not (althoguh I feel the NAV is a must-have for my wife). What does everyone else think about how it looks?

I've had it for a year and I like it

IO have the Nav also and while the software and functionality of the Nav come up a little short of great..the look is much better IMO. You will get 2 schools of thought on this..those that love the retro look and tradition of the center speedo. and the other 2% like me that wanted the Nav bad enought to pluck down $1700 and lose the speedo.
I love having the tach and speedo side by side and think it is much better for a daily driver.

ps. if she drives stick..get her the S

I also like the tachometer and speedometer next to each other. I was concerned that the steering wheel would partially block view of these gauges when they both were mounted side by side on the column. After driving a dealer car with this configuration, I determined that this was not a problem.

I added a PocketPC-based Nav:

- works great (iGuidance software better than my Mercedes Nav)
- saves you $1,000 at least
- preserves the character of the MINI

I like the idea of the nav and everything, but you gotta love that big honkin speedo in the center. My only problem with the center speedo, helps the wife at backseat driving. My speed is too obvious to her.

Thanks for all the advice! I think it looks ok either way, and as long as teh speedo isn't functionally affected by the steering wheel its no big deal.

 I'm thinking of buying a MINI for myself and I personally decided to pass on the Nav system. Even though it's cool, it is an additional $1700 and I really love the center speedo. I bet you can't go wrong either way.....she'll be happy to have a MINI!
