iPod Error: CD99 / Unable to control via steering wheel

Hi - I bought a 2005 MC with the factory installed iPod adapter. The iPod worked great for about 2 years. About a month ago, when I pressed AUX and connected my iPod, the iPod was no longer being recognized by my stereo. Instead of showing allowing me to control the iPod through my steering wheel control, and seeing the 'Mini' on my iPod after I connected it to my Mini, I saw CD99 on my stereo and it appeared that my iPod itself didn't realize it was connected to the adapter.

On the plus side, I could still play the iPod through my stereo and could use the iPod itself to jump around to different songs and playlists. On the negative, I had no control over the iPod from either my stereo or steering wheel controls. Additionally, the iPod didn't stop or pause when I turned my car off.

I bought a new iPod to see if there was a problem w/my old one - but that did not fix the problem. I still have no controll and see the CD99 on my stereo display.

That being said - does anyone have any advice on how to fix this so I can use my stereo/steering wheel controls again?

Thank for any help.
