Decided the HK wasn't cutting it.... soooooo.....
Equipment:
Head Unit: JVC KD-AVX44 (video without mucking up the dash)
Amp: Soundstream REF4.760 (4x115@4ohm - 4x155@2ohm - 2x380 bridged@4ohm)(not really, but those are the specs)
Front Speakers: Polk Audio MM6501 in stock locations (2.7ohm)
Rear Speakers: Disconnected
Subwoofer: (1)10" Pioneer Premier Champion Pro (2ohm DVC wired in series)
Capacitor: Power Acoustik 2.0 Farad

For now:

False floor to hold the equipment..... generic prefab sub enclosure (.7cuft) on top (soon to be custom fiberglass for equip. rack and enclosure... and then sealed door pods for the 6.5 mids)

Just wanted to get everything in and working to see if I like the setup, then work on the "cosmetics"......

Here are some of the temporarily installed pics....... ongoing project..... it's pretty dirty right now.... will clean it all up before MOTD next week! ROCK! The "false floor" cover that the sub is setting on used to cover everything completely across so you couldn't see anything and I left the gaps around all sides for ventilation..... ummmm, amp still overheated. So this was a temporary fix to keep the amp cooler. Heading out this weekend to pick up some PC case fans (one sucking, one blowing... that's what she said!) to mount on each side of the sub for now for ventilation..... then cover with carpet for the trip to MOTD... did I mention MOTD? I'm so excited! A week of over 500 MINIs....... JAM!

P.S. How do you like my "turnbuckle" solution for the box mount? Not permanent, but you're not moving it!

 

Here is the JVC in the dash... sorry for the smudges..... you can't access the menus for adjustment with the remote (sub, crossover, EQ, etc..), and its a touchscreen..... I was playing with it and snapped some shots without thinking about cleaning it first, duh.

 

Oh... and, I did do some deadening to the doors (all the metal) and the plastic door card where I could. I didn't want to lose the "MINI-ness" that I fell in love with when I first drove one..... so I didn't go nuts soundproofing the car, just enough on the doors to prevent vibration. Sometimes I LIKE road noise. Makes me feel connected to the road and not "floating" on it. I made a 3/4" MDF baffle ring for the doors (painted with truck bed liner, several coats) and mounted them with (duct clay stuff?) between the door and baffle then packed it around the baffle and speaker where it would fit and not interfere with the door card panel. Used ensolite sticky back insulation around the speaker edge to seal the Mid to the door card panel. The midrange sounds pretty solid. The only thing that has a "buzz" is the stock grilles for the mids at certain frequencies in a couple songs, and that will be fixed when I create the fiberglass door pods (can use the Polk grilles). Staging and imaging aren't great but I didn't expect it to. It's clear and warm sounding. My peeps @ work seem to think it sounds pretty sweet..... I've listened to most of the 6 JMLabs Focal Test CDs and it has made me smile quite a few times.........

Can you post pictures of your tweet install? I have heard that the OEM tweet grills are a hindrance and I'm looking to see if others have addressed that.

I've no problem with sound output and fit. Then you can angle them however you want. I have mine aimed at the opposite passenger head area. Seems to work for now. I wonder if it would make a difference to mount it in place of the stock tweeter grille, flush, so there is less obstruction to the cabin. I like what I'm hearing right now. Someone on here actually did that but didn't take pics.... I think? I may do that when I fiberglass the door pods.......... so both of the Polks match in the doors. Here's mine with the door card on....

I will run mine without the stock grills until I come up with a satisfactory grill. My initial thought is to hog out the OEM and put something else in its place. Color, black or silver I don't know. I'll probably change the mid-range grill also.

 

The grille for the tweet fits great I just took it off for the photo... But I'll end up changing it to match the custom mid range pods.... prolly just some black mesh instead of the silver perforated stock stuff.... good luck! Lemme know how it goes....
