Navigation & Audio static noise from stereo
static noise from stereo
I have a standard mini S with the standard stereo. It has a Kicker 5 channel amp with six aftermarket kicker speakers (four front, two rear) and a sub in back. My problem is I'm getting allot of static noise out of my speakers. If I set the volume one notch up from full off I can hear it really well. If I turn the volume up to a loud listening level the noise doesn't get louder. I've checked the grounds. Does anyone else have low level static from their head unit? what is the fix?

Sounds like a "Gorund Loop" issue all your grounds cooul be good but if they are all different lengths and connected to different parts of the car they can casue a problem that way as corosion builds up between body panels and such.
These type of problems can be very difficult to locate it take a lot of tiral and error to ding the one that is causing the problem. Start with the audio cables to the amp. Disconnect them and see if you still have a problem if not then the amp is clean ans grounded well then, it is on to the oem heas unit.
All i can say is good luck finding it.

Hey arizonae did you manage to fix it? i'm having the exact same problem! it's driving me crazy!
I ditched the amp and sub to fix my problem. I've been told that I needed to run a ground from the amp to the exact same ground location the stereo was using to fix the problem.
I worked in a car stereo shop for many years and after doing all of the normal preventatives like keeping the power on one side of the car and the audio cables on the other , making sure you have a good ground etc some cars with certain equipment were impossible to fix without adding a ground loop isolator like one of these. The cheap pyramid branded ones seemed to work best and cost less too. http://www.amazon.com/Raptor-GL15-Ground-Loop-Isolator/dp/B0009O19LQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345583325&sr =1-4&keywords=ground+loop+isolator
