Procedure to update NAV disk

Hi - I got a new nav disk, popped it in and am told to shut system down for five minutes and restart after 5.

Now the funny thing is that the nav interface (hard button or otherwise) has no shutdown function. I killed the ignition, but I don't hear the disk whirring.

So what is the official procedure to update the nav disk?

Weird.

Thanks in advance!

Yep that shutdown is referring to pulling the key fob out and letting it sit for five minutes. I just did a nav update to an E60.

Cool - I left the disk in when I parked, hopefully after work it'll just be shiny and new.

Thanks!

How did this turn out for you? I am thinking of getting the latest nav DVD as well.

Worked just as advertised above. Load it, shut the car off - go to work. Came back, et voila.

Now I need to figure out how to display the red light cameras embedded in the data. The main reason I got this disk after all. I don't suppose anyone here wants to chime in? If I can just get to the list of what POI is shown on the screen as icons, then I should be able to select it. It's the same database used by the BMW system and there it's selectable.

We just picked up the 2011 DVD from the dealer, it now has 2 DVD's for East/West coast. We popped it in, all it does is say "insert DVD".

Put the old one in, & it works.

As you probably saw in the other thread - you must have gotten the wrong set - you need Professional, not High. Best of luck.

Yup, stupid dealer gave me the R52/53 disk, not the R56 disk. You would think they would know that.

Went back, & picked up the proper disk, it updated in 5min, as soon as the disk went it, it recognized it, & told us to shut off the car for 5min.

If you ever figure this out post the details.

Got the 2011 Nav DVD. I noticed it now has more items on the map such as additional lakes and trails I believe. Too bad I still cannot do a general search of POIs as the 2011 MINI Connected with nav allows you to.

65902199845, it seems.

and for 1st-gen MINIs, 65902199846
http://store.minigpsmaps.com/prod_01...pc=65902199846

-------

Anyone out there know if the BMW nav update will work on the MINI?
In other words, might the difference between 65902199843 (BMW) and 65902199845 (MINI) just be the packaging?

I ask because this place is much cheaper than the "official" source above.

(hell, I may throw $30 at them just to test it myself)

I'm pretty sure it will work - though not 100%. The key is you get the professional disk set.
