2002 R50 radio code entry procedure?

First things first. I have searched here and other forumns and could not find an answer. So I will ask. Battery was disconnected and I do not have the 4 digit code. So I called a dealer and got the factory 5 digit code. Sounds good right well you only have 4 places to enter numbers. So I need to know what the procedure is to enter it. I am the second owner and when I purchased this MINI I did not receive any manuals nor previous info. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

I've seen posts regarding this in the past. IIRC, as long as the HU sees the CAN bus, no code is necessary. I've swapped radios in MINIs several times, and have never had to enter a code. Make sure the plug is securely seated.

The older headunits (up to about 2003) did use a security code. Newer headunits only detect the data bus for security. Ian Cull describes it in his blog: http://www.gbmini.net/wp/2007/12/min...eo_in_porsche/

No personal experience, but from what I've seen online, the security code seems to be 4 digits (e.g. Ian mentioned it). I believe that the dealer might have given you an incorrect code.

See that's what is irratating. Everyone on the forums was saying that they received a radio code card with their car. I understand the head unit normally gets it security from bus. But it can also be put in manual input code function. Which is what I'm running into.

So after reading other forums threads and posts even contacted another dealer I am no closer to using factory radio. Forget everything else has anyone entered a code into their factory head unit and if so was there a procedure to follow? If so would you be able to post how it was entered. My head unit is alpine cd53 sn# al500320468335. Thanks
