Free Lifetime Sirius Subscription?

I just called to activate the 1 yr complimentary subscription and was asked if I wanted a free 2 year subscription. I asked what the catch was, the operator said there was no catch. So I said, "sure." He then asked how a free lifetime subscription sounded. At this point I felt the upsell coming so again I asked, "what's the catch?" He said there was no catch and that this is something they're offering to owners of 2011 MINIs for the life of ownership. After taking my info for registration (no CC info was given) I asked if I would get billed for anything in the future and he assured I wouldn't.

Is this something that's been going on and will I be paying for it down the line? Or is it truly free, no strings attached?

I have a 2009. When I called to activate it the Sirius rep told me it came with a lifetime subscription. It said 1 yr on the window sticker.

Interesting... I use my iPod with 3000 songs (all legal) and have found that I don't listen to Sirius all that much. Still, lifetime is good. May have to call them up.

Hmm, I wasn't offered either, just the 1 year when I registered my 2011 MCS in December. I wonder if its some random offer they give out at times....

I never used Sirius before getting my MINI, and I listen to nothing but, If I could get lifetime for my MINI I'd be all over it ...

I was offered only the 1 year, when I registered my 2011 MCS in Jan. I don't really listen to anything particular, but free lifetime subscription (even if it's "only" for my ownership of the car) would be great.
Can anyone confirm if this is a regular offer and how we can all get in on it?

That is what mine says. Sirius everything lifetime plan. And I could care less as I rarely use it. The stereo in the MINIS suck enough they are even worse while listening to very compressed sat radio.

Sirius has always had a lifetime plan. The last time I looked into it, it was about $500. It is the life of the radio, not the person. If the radio dies it has to be paid again. The MINI radio should last a long, long time, but some of the portable Sirius radios (like my Kenwood H2E) only lasted 4 years.

My Sirius account shows a 1 yr. sub. After my sub expires in Aug. of this year I do not plan on renewing due to the lackluster sound quality. Some songs sound decent, but a majority lack dynamic range. I'll stick with my iPhone and 256k AAC files.

With Pandora on the horizon a "lifetime" subscription to Sirius is probably about three more years.

I subscribed my 2011 on 19 Jan. It has a 1 year subscription. I just called them and they say there is no such deal on offer. Perhaps you got lucky. I would love a free lifetime subscription, but do not plan on extending, for the same reasons others have listed (sound quality).

If other get this, it would be nice to know and how? Also, if anyone has migrated the 1 year sub to lifetime.

Assuming my sub will run out next year, is there a way to remove sirius from my interface?

I agree the sound quality sucks but there are a few hip hop stations that play east coast stuff I would never hear otherwise. Just kinda surprised they would offer something free for life that normally costs $13/mo.

My 07 came with the lifetime option. Of course I paid for it with the audio package at the time. In 07 there was a lot of discussion about how some people called to activate and they would only offer 1 year, or 2 year, while others got the lifetime like they were supposed to. Sounds like the same games all over again for current owners.

Back in 2008 the Sirius radio was a $1,000 option and it came with a lifetime subscription. It was basically $500 for the radio and $500 for the life subscription.

The last thing I saw on buying the lifetime sub it was trasferable up to, I believe it was, 5 times. So in case your reciever crapped you would not be out all that extra money.

One question: do you need sirius/xm radio for traffic information for your NAVI?

My Navi was already providing with the traffic before I even activated the radio.
However, my other vehicle's traffic info on NAVI got killed when the radio subscription was over.

Wow ok Im going to have to call and ask about this. I activated mine on Jan 4th and all the rep did was activate my radio and add what I had left over from the GTIs subscription to the current account for the MINI.

All I listen to is SAT and my Zune, local radio blows except for the classic rock station.

I just bought a 2011 MCS with Aux/USB and can't figure out how to hook up my 8GB Zune to it. Can you give me any pointers? Do I need a special cable or something?

I just got my 2011 Mini yesterday and had seen this thread before I bought the car. I called Sirius this morning to activate my 1 yr and I asked them about the lifetime option. He said he knew nothing about any such offer and if I wanted a lifetime sub it was $650.00. Oh well...

I activated my 1-year, free subscription a few weeks ago. The girl didn't mention anything about anything being free. After 2 weeks, I don't plan on paying a dime for Sirius/XM radio once the year is up. With the USB port, I have 8 gig flash drives that play exactly what I want - copied over directly from my PC.

As much as this surprises me, I only occasionally listen to the radio, even after programming it 3 different times in 12 days. Satellite radio just isn't as impressive as I thought it would be.
