Want to Replace but can't find Upper Speakers for replacement

I want to replace the top and bottom speakers on my 2007 MCS Coupe.
I have the standard base boost cd stereo. The problem is I can find the 5.5. to 6.5 on Crutchfield's site, (Infinity Reference) but have no idea what to use for the 3.5 upper speakers. Can't find any. Can anyone make a recommendation of what would fit and be decent. Thanks again.

Search is your friend here. Doing a search you will find many different options. From low cost around $100 to rather expensive at $900+.

Speakers are also subjective and what you like I will probably not. In fact some hear have change speakers more than once to get the right setup for themselves yet others have loved what others have not. I.E. some say teh Infinity Refference are to bright and others love them.

Now it seems you have the base system with our tweeters in the a-pillars.

So my suggestion would be to replace the door speakers with a compnent set of 6.5" woofers and 1" to 1-1/2" tweeters. There is a thread somewhere here that has a template for making a tweeter mounting that fits the upper door speaker opening.

Something like these listed here:
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_410/Com...ms.html?tp=106

Just putting back a 3-1/2" speaker in that location will not really do your highs any good IMHO.

Do you still recommend the channel swap even when using the component woofer and tweeter (in place of the 3.5) ? as you suggest?

Definately yes to the channel swap. it will put the base in the back speakers that can handle it much better and remove some of it from the front speakers.

One last question, and I do appreciate your patience. I am considering these, but they are 2 ohm. Any issue with that fact or this selection as component speakers?

Infinity Reference 6030cs

Thank you

I believe you want 4ohm speakers with the base audio system. The HIFI system can use 2ohm.

They say 2 ohm but claim to be a "true 4 ohm" because of the 2 ohm speaker combined with the speaker wiring effectively makes it a 4 ohm installation safe for use on all head units. This is what it said on Infinity (Harman.com) website, the manufacturer. What do you think.

Additionally they cost $249 on Crutchfield, but I have seen the same speakers brand new on Amazon, although "not an authorized dealer" for $100 less.
Any warranty service would have to go through the dealer, not Infinity in that case. Is it worth it to save the the $100? The speakers seem sweet.

I would stick with a 4 Ohm Speaker as the OEM base head unit uses 4 ohm speakers to begin with so with the wiring as infinity states is closer to 6 ohms.

As for infinity or other brands, If you find them on amazon or other sites for that much less than on Crutchfield i would stay away form the Amazon ones as they very well may be knock offs. There are alot of companies out there selliing items that are claimed to be from some high quality well known manufacturer but really ar not. If it was 30-40 dolloars differnent i would be okay with that but almost 50% off not likely that they are infinity.

You are probably right. How's the saying go? If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is not. Thanks for your help.

I have bought a lot of car audio off of ebay and other websites. I have not had any trouble with counter fit car audio. Now bluetooth headsets and cell phone batteries are a different story. Typically it is possible to get 25-40% off. Sometimes crutchfield will have a special, otherwise I find them over priced. The only time I have used crutchfield is for head units, where they give you a bunch of install stuff. Since there is no special install stuff for Mini, it isn't worth it in my opinion. Stick with name brands, Infiniti, Alpine, Polk, Clarion, Pioneer, JL.

Check out the DLS 3" mid dome. I believe they will fit............. I'm going to be trying them out shortly as I have a few sets kicking around in the garage.

I purchased Polk DB 6501 component speakers and will fit the tweeters where the uppers were. I will first do the channel swap to improve the sound so the new components will take advantage of that too.

I was able to find a set of discontinued JL Audio 3 way Components, XR653 Speaker system. I searched EBAY and Craig's list with some patience and finally appeared. This a 6.5", a 3" (Upper door) and tweeter

These fit great in the doors and pillers. I will be using Focal 2 way comps in rear in place of the 6 x 9s. With components however you will probably want to invest in an amp.
