What's in the Harman Kardon pkg?

I can't seem to find what this package actually comprises of. I see there's tweeters mounted in the a-pillar, but what else? Different head? Just a DSP? Different speakers?

Any help would be great!

From my educated guess based on the HIFI system. It is the same headunit as all US Coopers (Boost, I think it is called). No user configurable DSP. The processing is internal to the amp.

1. Different main car wire harness to support rear mounted amp and extra speakers.

2. Rear mounted Amp (upgraded compared to HIFI)

3. 10 total speakers (is it four or six more than base model?) (2 tweeters in rear, 2 6x9 rear, 2 3.5" door mid, 2 5.5" door low, 2 a-pillar tweeters).

4. Upgraded speakers (upgraded compared to HIFI)

If you have interest in the HK system, the car needs to be ordered with it. Since the main wiring harness is different (most likely) a retrofit is not possible.

HK upgrade

Resurrecting a very old thread here but wanted to see if anyone had success in upgrading to HK system from a base system? Is the wiring harness from the donor car usable on my car? Anyone have more info on this? Would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think Mini offers an after market HK upgrade. Some members use Integral Audio to do an upgrade. A bit pricey, but a HK upgrade would be as well.

You might check with Chad at Detroit Tuned; I think his shop did an HK retrofit on an R56. The integration of the electronics in these cars makes retrofitting things like the HK extremely involved. I know MINI offered an Alpine audio upgrade for upgrading the stock audio in the R56 models that is probably more reasonable. The ultimate is the Integral Audio system, which is pretty spendy but can be done in your driveway without reprogramming the car.

So if I was to obtain the complete system from a donor car.

1. headunit
2. hk amp
3. all speakers

Can the wiring be pulled from the car and re-installed in mine?

If not, can I purchase a new wiring harness for just the stereo and rewire? I was told that the wiring is connected to the main wiring harness of the car.

Do I also need to reprogram the stereo to work on my car?

The new headunit has bluetooth as well, can all of that be reinstalled in my car?

Sounds like this would be a ton of work?

I've seen the integral audio upgrades and yes, they are spendy, but maybe that's because trying to upgrade like this is super labor intensive.
