You think it unfortunate that it had a blown fuse?

Oh, right.

You know, replacing the fuse is only half the battle. Don't you need to figure out what blew it? If the condition still exists, it could just blow again.

 

i think he knows what blew it......wiring the sub amp backwards.

The Power wiring to the Sub which is what the OP said burned would have NO consequence on the Fuse on the back of the radio. There is only one way for him to tap into a power line after the Fuse on the back of the radio and that would be to use the Amp On Line from the radio.

Although the OP May have I surely hope that he would not have done that.

Also if that was the case the Fuse would have blown immediately and he would not have had the radio stay on for as long as it did.

So with these new revelations and the bluetooth revelation i would say the OP needs to replace the fuse AND before putting it all back together check to see that it works. If he decides to put it all back together and then turn it on and the fuse blows there is a lot of wasted time.

If the fuse does blow again then remove all the aftermarket stuff and take it back to the dealer.

To the OP please next time include all the information about ALL the aftermarket stuff you have installed to make it easier to assist you. If i had known about the Parrot Bluetooth over the MINI buletooth I would hav taken a much different approach to assist you. Point in case: Thinking the bluetooth was MINI (i should have asked though) would mean that the fuse on the back of the radio had to be good, but if i had known the bluetooth was a Parrot unit I would have known that the audio would then not go thru the head unit and would have suggested the fuse in my first post.

Swiss Miss, I've only followed directions as per others on the Bass600 installation. I haven't done anything out-of-the-norm like pulling power from the radio...

I'm sorry that I didn't give more details about the install, but with electrical things, there are thousands of details...it can be hard to know which details are the important details until after the fact.

I still don't know exactly what caused that fuse to blow. It has to be related to the sub being wired backward, though. I've checked everywhere (on the wires I've touched) for any peculiarities and haven't seen anything else.

I will replace the fuse this evening and see what happens. I will let you know!

 

I'm with schatzy62. Every detail matters. Plus I'm at a loss as to why wiring the amp backwards would cause the HU to pop its fuse. Unless the amp tried to draw too much from the HU, or the amp sent back some power to the HU??? Could be another issue at work outside the amp wiring? When playing with electronics on a car, it's so important to check all your wiring two or three times before turning anything on! But to gloss over the pop fuse as it "had to just be the amp" might be a mistake. Unless you can explain why the fuse blew (i.e. power from the bat when into the inputs of the speaker wiring, back to the HU)... I would still consider the matter unresolved.

 

I am not accusing you of wiring the power of the sub to the radio. I was just saying that is the ONLY way that the sub could have blown the fuse. The speaker outputs are protected against DC voltage so there should be no possibility of damage (unless there is a real problem with the head unit) to the head unit or possibility of blowing a fuse on the head unit.

As for why the fuse blew I am not sure, and we may never know. I may just be coincidence or there may really be something wrong from the factory with the head unit.

Unfortunately with new cars it is very important to give as much information as possible due to the interaction between so many different systems on the car. In Fact in this particular car the head unit also holds some of the main computer system for the car. And although the car will run and drive there are many things that will to work properly if the head unit is not functional.

Good luck with replacing the fuse this evening and i really hope that there is nothing wrong. Just make sure you turn the system on before putting it all back together. This will save you a lot of time if there is a problem with the head unit.

 

Perhaps something went wrong with the Parrot Bluetooth to cause the blown fuse, it was a coincidence that it happened when installing the sub.

I'd say, see if the fuse blows before reassembling the dash. If it does, take it back to stock and see if the fuse still blows. If it does, then consider taking it to the dealer.

 

I replaced the blown fuse on the back of the HU, and that fixed it. I made sure to give it some time before putting everything back together. Seems to be holding up, so I think disaster averted. I hope that fixes it for good, and I'm going to be much more careful with the sub/amp. I'm just glad I didn't take it to the dealership until I had done a little more digging. My wallet would be much lighter! Thanks, everyone, for the tips.
