Aftermarket amp on stock speakers - worth it?

Newbie here...sorry if this thread is a dupe, I've spent the past few days searching and couldn't find quite the answer I'm looking for.

I've got a 2009 S hardtop, stock sound system (non-HiFi) with Bluetooth and USB and I am going to put a sub in. I was wondering if it was worth it to get a 4 channel amp to power the front speakers in addition to the sub? I know the stock speakers are garbage, but would putting a little more power to them make them sound any better? I'm on a bit of a budget and didn't want to splurge and spend the money on the front speakers, but if it's really worth it, I suppose I do it.

So any thoughts? Would putting the stock speakers on an amp make it any better at all?

IMO more power is just going to make them sound worse. Go ahead and get the amp though and just add aftermarket speakers later when you have the money/time.

The speakers are the worst part of the whole system. Just take alooko at allthe threads where people have replaced teh speakers and stayed with the OEM head unit (standard system) and OEM Amp (HiFi system)

All the people tha have replaced the speakers have stated good resuls, amybe not as good as adding an amp as well.

The only thing an amp will do is show how bad the speakers really are. And in fact they probably wil fall apart if you add an amp as they will NOT be able to handle the power they are only good for about 20 watts max

Thanks for the input. I think I'm just going to do the sub for now and see how that goes. I appreciate the help!

Be careful to not set your stock speakers on fire! (I'm being totally serious.. pumping too much current into them will cause quite a bit of heat...)
