Navigation & Audio I hate the large central speedometer
Hey Ken
RKW gave you a link to change the faceplate, I'm sure you can plainly see that the radio and all of the idiot lights are in the large Mini speedometer. The speedometer is probably connected to the cars computer. I think even you would know that replacing it is out of the question.
I don't see any posts on this thread that allows you to call anyone a jerk. All I read were people voicing their opinions and others trying to help you.
I think you really should go get a TTs.

That is not aftermarket, but the Chrono pack that was a factory option in the Mk 1. There is no such option in the Mk 2. The only other option is Nav.
I agree with 2009mini that the central speedometer should have equal increments throughout. In fact it's certainly misleading that it does not. Even my 10th grade students know to space it out equally when displaying data properly.
speedo
I find it odd that you 'hate' something on this beautiful car. It's the first thing people comment on. It's the last thing people comment on too. It's a MINI and it's special. And every car has it's good and bad points. Did you actually purchase the car? I use my Custom Navi for my speed. It's at eye level and it's right on accurate. --Stacy
There is an aftermarket for a reason. I've seen MK 1 vehicles with the central speedo replaced with other indicators. I asked a simple question to narrow my choice before purchase. What a bunch of unfriendly $(XOD+@ jerks. I'm buying a TTS to avoid this group of "enthusiasts." It's just a car people. An overpriced car with a cheap plastic interior that has a terribly service record, but that has appeal in other ways in the JCW version.

something about people in glass houses....
Don't let the door hit ya in the ***......

The only jerk around here ken is urs truly! Most of our mini's will out handle any tts anyway on a hairpin and the £10K we would have saved can go on something more useful!
Maybe you should just go and sit im Maccy D's with all the other chavs!

Now that I have my new Justa, I actually have no problem with the jumbo speedo. I also thought I would hate the radio controls but they turned out to be fine. The parallax from the button to the display is a little annoying though. The lines help somewhat.
I do wonder why there is no water temp gauge. I have always found that useful. It could have gone in the section of the speedo 120 MPH to 160 MPH. Whose going 140 MPH in their MINI?!?!?!?

See, if ya had bought anything more than just a cooper, you'd know the answer to that.....
Its on my list of things to do. A hired Cooper-S and an Autobahn are probably the most likely circumstances, if I don't get to Bonneville salt flats in the S.
Given how optimistic the speedo is, you might be able to do it in the Justacooper, downhill with the wind behind you.

Large Central Speedometer
I do not even use it as a speedometer, so I hardly even notice that part. So, it is already just a light and control panel for me. I use the digital readout in the tach for my speed. Not sure if that is standard equipment or and option we purchased.
Of course, I'm a nerd like that lol
The only thing I use it for is to stick my GPS to it, but I still think it's neat.
