There are panels just above and below the actual screen filling up the 'circle'. Are there any warning indicators behind these panels?
|
yes: above the screen are idioit-lights, and below is the digital fuel level gauge
|
one light above is for the seat belt....the other i believe is if you leave your fuel cap open? can someone clarify?
and what's the dot? here's a pic i took a few weeks a ago on a fun run...do you see it? is it a sensor of sorts to adjust brightness on the nav? http://members.cox.net/hafid/mini/fu...me/funrun7.jpg -massively confused in scottsdale |
Hey, You have the exact same spot as I do above your screen from what I can see! There is this little bulge or particle above the screen. Can someone post a close-up of this panel just above the screen? My MA was going to replace my screen (dead pixel, ) and also that panel. This bump is not really centered, so I thought it was flawed when I took delivery last week. Hmmmm, now I'm wondering.

Two warning lights, one seatbelt, one for airbag. The 'dot' is some unknown item.
The sensor for the display brightness is actually the dummy 'button' next to the knob. The clear circle in the center is the sensor. Put your finger over it in the daylight and the NAV monitor will slowly dim. _________________ '03 MCS, Dk Silver, 17" R85s, NAV, DSC (often turned off!), Packs #1 and #3, Rally lights, etc, etc. Fulton, MD. ah ha! thank you oh great one!
but i could have sworn that there was an addition warning light up there for the fuel cap...maybe I was just dreaming? |
I can't believe that "spot" is intentional. It's not even regularly shaped, much less centered. I really wonder what that thing is now. Maybe when it's in for service, I'll ask.

By squinting at the strange little sensor when I first got the car, I figured it at first to be the ambient light sensor for the display. That was not the case, since it's in the dummy button next to the input knob. It appears that it could be an infrared sensor used for a remote of some kind but was never implemented. It would make sense to have a remote keyboard or other interface with the unit. Maybe it's yet another future option.

according to our manual, our "brake wear indicator" should be "near the Nav"....
Since I can't find it anywhere, I am assuming it is above the Nav screen...... I seem to recall another one or two warning lights that are supposed to be "near the Nav", but what they are escapes my mind right now..... Gotta give that manual a more careful read sometime..... |
Oh! I know! I know!
Actually, I figured out what it is from just playing with it. Started by messing with the light sensor on the non-button button on my NAV. Put your finger over it and block the light, and the NAV screen gradually darkens a bit. Remove finger, and presto, the NAV gets bright again. Tried the same thing with the "mystery sensor", only using a dark towel. And lo-and-behold, my clock, odometer and fuel gauge all dimmed a bit. Remove towel, and things brighten up again. So it looks like thats an ambient light sensor for the non-NAV instrument lights. Way cool!   |
I'm going to beta test thing ASAP.

I can verify that those are the brake pad wear lights and the fuel cap light... something about going, "Oh my god, we have no pads..." makes you forget to put the cap back on the gas tank... and don't panic if you don't do it... the light does eventually go off.
