Help! Katana LX (no nav) doesn't pair phonebook
I went out and bought a new Katana LX (Sprint) last week because my older phone wouldn't sync the phonebook. I did some research on here and noticed that the couple people that had a Katana LX said they worked without a problem in their MINI. As soon as I got it, I synced it up and it showed "No entries available." So I did it again just to be sure and then it worked...sort of. It listed all entries from A-S. So thinking it had truncated my phonbook (I only had about 80 names to begin with), I deleted some and resynced it. This time I got A-M. So, just for kicks, I added a phony entry under C and this time I got A-N. Yesterday, I didn't change anything (just decided to try again) and got "No entries available" and now I'm stuck back at "No entries available.":impatient: It doesn't matter what I change now, my MINI won't read the phonebook.
I don't have nav and I've deleted everything from the voice dial commands. Both the phone and the MINI should be fresh as daisies. All the other functionality is there, but it won't read the phonebook. I know it can, because it read part of it. I have an option on my phone to "send contacts" but the MINI doesn't seem to be receptive to that. If anybody has experienced anything like this that might be of help, I would appreciate any advice. Thanks! |
Check the sticky thread about Bluetooth compatability at the top of this forum and also check this spread sheet out.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...HjCm-AfA&hl=en This will give you probably all the info you need as the phone you list has been reproted to work very well. The sticky thread most likely has the answer. EDIT: There is alimit of how many contacts the car can take. How many contacts do you have? |
Thanks. I've looked all through these posts and keep coming back to the same answer: "It should work."
I only started with about 80 contacts and whittled it down to about 50. Each time I deleted some, the MINI showed fewer, then one day I added one and it showed a few more. Now it shows none... |
Dang, still no dice after the PMs? :(

Well, I do have an update. I saw another poster say after making and receiving some calls and trying to resync his phone (can't remember the model...I'm just trying everything now), that it populated. So, at lunch, I sat in my MINI, dis-paired (?) my phone and my MINI, made a call to one of my contacts, hung up and re-paired my phone with my MINI. My phonebook populated all the way up to the person I called. Now, we're getting somewhere. I ran out of time, but next I'll try adding a phony Z number and calling that to see if it will populate all the way through.
|
:o Oh man, I forgot about the call-list issue. Sorry about that- let me know if it works :)
|
Can you tell me more about the "call-list issue"?
I unpaired MINI and phone, added a phony Z name and gave it the ASK MINI number. I called it, then hung up and repaired phone with MINI. So then it populated the phone book as it did previously (up to the contact I called at that time) and then skipped everything until the phony Z name and then added that. So, now I"m only missing names from P to Z. I'm getting closer! |
There's a note on a MINI PDF somewhere that says some phones need to have a call in the dialed and received call logs before the phone will sync successfully.
I was thinking that might explain the issue you were having, but it seems different. I guess now you just need to call everyone you know? ;) |
Well, after some more testing, it appears as though having some call history is a factor. It appears as though when they are not synced, I make and receive some calls, then sync them, it still reads "no entries available," but then I unsync them, place a call and then it syncs the phonebook up to that contact, in this case, P. I then unsynced them, deleted a contact in S and resynced. Same: A-N. Unsync, add the same contact back under S and now it loads the phonebook A-M and then the contact I added under S. So it added the one I added, but at the expense of one under N. This is just getting loony....

Aw man, sorry!
The car should automatically re-sync each time you turn it on. Maybe if it had a few days of syncing with the same pairing it might help? |

The car should automatically re-sync each time you turn it on. Maybe if it had a few days of syncing with the same pairing it might help? Try this. 1. Make up a phoney Z listing with you home phone nubmer. 2. Call that number and have someone answer it. Then have them call you back and answer it. (This records the calls in the incoming and outgoing call lists) 3. Pair the phone with the Mini. (it is supposed to populate all contacts) 4. If it does not populate all the contacts then DO NOT un-pair the phone just shut the car off and let it be for ten minutes. 5. Turn OFF bluetooth on the phone itself. On in the car and DO NOT un-pair the car. 6. Start the car and then after the car has started and run for about 30 seconds. Turn Bluetooth ON in the phone. The phone should automatically connect to the car. Check the contacts list to see if it has added more contacts. You may have to do step 6 a few times to get them all. Let us know what happens. |
Thanks! I'll try this after work and update on the results.
