iPhone function question via Aux port
Maybe OT but since it's actually connected to the car
Since my car has been in the shop for 2 weeks with no end in sight I can't try this for myself. If you plug the iPhone into the car via an Aux port, what happens when a call comes in? Where does the ringing/callers voice get projected? Through the car speakers? Speaker phone?
How do you speak into the phone...via speaker phone? If so, does this happen automatically or do you have to select the speaker phone on the screen?
How about if you're using a Blutooth headset?
Thanks for humoring me

The car basically works like a giant speakerphone Bluetooth headset
Pretty much the same behavior regardless of the phone, as long as it's compatible. The iPhone should ignore that it's plugged into the Aux port, but I don't have one, so somebody else should confirm this. (My Blackberry will initiate a call without problems when playing music and connected to the Aux port, but for some reason when receiving a call, it thinks that a headset is connected and bypasses the Bluetooth connection)
Ringing and the caller's voice comes through the car's speakers after fading out any/whatever audio was playing. The car has it's own microphone that transmits to the phone via the Bluetooth connection.

In that case, you might be able to rig something up by hacking up a wired headset, but you may need to provide your own mic or something. It'd be venturing into new territory as far as I know. It might be more worthwhile to just use the speakerphone, or doing something aftermarket with Bluetooth support.

So what I notice is that when a call comes in the music (from the radio's speakers) fades out and the phone rings (from the phone). If I answer, the caller can hear me via the iPhone's mic, but I hear nothing. If I unplug the iPhone, I can use it normally. If I leave it plugged in, I can touch "Speaker" on the iPhone and use speaker phone.
When my bluetooth headset is on, the music fades (on the radio speakers), both the iPhone itself and the headset signal the incoming call, and after I answer I can talk normally to the caller via the bluetooth. No sound from the speakers.
I hope that helps.

I have a 3G. I *don't* have an aux port on my Mini, but I do have an aux port on my radio at the office, and I play tunes from the iPhone with it. It's the same kind of simple connection that the aux port in the Mini is. I don't think the iPhone can tell the difference between amps, headphones, or an aux port on a car if they are connected via the 3.5mm jack.

I have one running through the aux port.
an incoming call is just like playing music throught he speakers. I know this as I had a conference call a couple of weeks ago. but the mic is still used by the phone. So it can be hard for the other person to hear you.

I'm still looking for a good place to place the microphone. One thought was using the vented oval next to the sunroof control on my '05 R53. Unfortunately, the mic cable isn't long enough to reach.
