Single DIN Screen Question
All -
A question for all you radioheads: Has anyone experienced problems installing a single DIN DVD HU with flip up screen? Before I invest, I want to make sure that it will open all the way without hitting the dash above. If it helps, the unit I plan on purchasing is: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...s/AVH-P5900DVD Also, my mind is not completely made up, so if anyone can recommend a different unit than 5900DVD, please share. Thanks |
Hey chilisport,
I got the AVH-P5000DVD myself. It is the newer model compared to the 5900 and fits pretty well. The screen will go up and probably hit the dash but I do not expect any damage to the motors that flip the screen out. It covers just above the oil temp and the fuel gauge but you will not have any trouble reading your speedometer and your miles screen. I'll take pics of the headunit when I can but I'm pretty sure you can find pictures of other installs people did in the forums. There are other installs of people relocating the climate control and toggle switches to make room for a double din, or go check out pimpedout97x's current project. Hope this helps |
I had the Kenwood KVT-819 DVD unit installed. It fits very nicely, and the unit blends well with the MINI controlls. Display color can be changed and the red fits well. The unit, with the $30 cable, gives you the same menu and speed as your I-pod controll. It is very flexable and can be combined with NAV, I-Pod, back up camera, TV, Blue tooth, ect.
As far as the adjustment on the screen it is micro adjustable. You can set it very close but, not touching the dash, and it is very ridgid for touch screen controll. Steve |
What about compatibility with H/K and MFSW???

I was looking for a single DIN type dvd player. I too was concerned about the screen hitting the dash. So I went a little different. And I do mean little. The screen here is 3", while it's small it is pretty clear. My sons in the back can watch their movies and think it's very cool (while parked of course!) The viewing angle is a little difficult for the kid behind the driver due to my shoulder being in the way. The price on this Jensen VM8012 was just too low to give it a try. I got it from Crutchfield for $206 with all the intructions, wiring and shipping. The install wasn't too bad, I had a small problem with the wiring harness. I also, lost the steering wheel controls.
Attachment 30957 The radio is very basic, but does the job I want it too. |
