DICE integration with new iPod Nano

Over Christmas I purchased a new Nano iPod and Dice unit. I expected it all to work together flawlesly but discovered that the new Nano's firm ware was not 1.1.1 which apparently is the only version that the DICE will integrate with completely. The basic problem is that without firm ware version 1.1.1 you can't control the stereo from the iPod.

Has anyone managed to find a way to downgrade the firmware on their Nano iPod to version 1.1.1?

I'm having the same problem with my new iPod Touch, firmware 1.1.2. The iPod shows "accessory attached" instead of allowing control, and so won't show album art or anything which is a bit of a downer.

Oh, and to answer your question if you can find the 1.1.1 firmware file online (shouldn't be too hard) you can install it from iTunes by shift-clicking on the "upgrade" button on the iPod info screen. That will pop up a dialog box for you to choose the firmware file.

The DICE will work with a minimum of 1.1.1 - there's no reason to downgrade. Newer firmwares are compatible with the DICE.

Tom, it does work but not fully. You cannot control music from the ipod, only from the radio controls or MFSW. The ipod shows a grey screen with "accessory attached" and that's it. This is on a 1.1.2 ipod touch.

Firmware is not going to change this, it's a reaction of the iPod to 3rd party devices.

The touch, new Classic and 3rd Generation nano lock the iPod's Clickwheel when attached to 3rd party devices, this is an iPod-specific issue - not the DICE.

Earlier iPods do not experience this issue. All DICE-specific features are still available. If Clickwheel operation is desired, you can set the DICE module's DIP switches to Simple iPod mode to gain access of the Clickwheel, but will lose text display on the radio when doing so.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

So why are we finding this out after we bought?

Why isn't this explained on your website? I bought the DICE assuming that it would work as described and that I'd be able to controle things from the iPod as well as the steering wheel.

If I had known, I would have bought the DICE anyway, but I'm a little pissed that I wasn't informed before hand.

I recently upgraded my 3rd gen nano. I noticed that when plugged into my Dice, instead of showing "accessory attached" the name of the track and the artist now shows up. It's one line of text and it switches between track name and artist name.

Also, the screen dims after a few seconds.

This is the primary reason the SILVERLINE was released afterwards, no one was informed the new iPods would react this way when connected. If your order was placed between Dec 1st and today, we'll exchange the module for you.

Are you referring ot text display on the iPod or radio?

replacement

Tom; Thanks for addressing this issue.

Do I understand correctly that the Silverline works smoothly with the Nano iPod version 3? Do the controls work on the steering wheel and is the iPod fully functional while connected as well?

If so I would like to exchange mine, but I'm in Canada. Do you know of a way to make the exchange without incurring the rediculously expensive brokerage fees that UPS charages. Could you mail it by standard post or by some other means other than UPS?

Is it all the same to you if I leave the wiring harness installed in my car and just exchange the DICE unit itself?

My order number was 55890

Thanks
Doug

Doug,

We can use USPS parcel post - but there will be no tracking info on the package, I don't normally prefer that method - but it's up to you.

Email me directly with your full name and request and we'll get the exchange process going.

Tom, I sent you an email a few days ago about a Silverline replacement, and haven't heard back. Is the replacement available to anyone who purchased a DICE between Dec 1 and now?

That's correct - offer is good until Jan 31st. Can you resend a copy of your email?

Sorry for the total newbie question.

I am considering buying a 2006. No multifunction steering wheel, just a plain old CD deck(stock from Mini) Will this Dice Silverline work with my 1.1.3 iPhone? When I say work I mean I can:

- pull the deck
- plug it in
- re-install deck
- mount a holder
- listen to audio through MINI speakers
- passenger can watch video and hear audio through MINI speakers
- charge iPhone
- controls songs, podcasts, video through iPhone interface (cover flow) while plugged in to Dice
- crochet me a scarf
- bake bread
- satisfy my wife

forget the last 3 requests.

I just installed mine today. It works perfect with my 2nd Gen Nano 1.1.3 I'm very happy with the product. EAS on the other hand forgot to ship my order last thursday when they said they would and didn't ship it till monday. Thus I had to do a 1100 mile round trip drive Wed-Fri without having the iPod. If it had been shipped when it was supposed to, I wouldn't have had a problem. Ohh well.

The DICE will do what you are asking.
