H/K Beep?

Every once and a while my wife's HK system will give off a loud tone/beep and then the volume drops. Anyone else have this happen?

I have had lots of weird things happen ranging from a loud screech to the volume cranking all the way up with the only way to turn it off by killing the car. That being said, it only happens every now and then.

Never had a problem with the H/K system in either of our cars, but something is definitely acting up on yours.

Does it sound like a computer-generated artificial "beep", or it is more of a quick "screech". If it's just a quick burst of noise, followed by a drastic reduction in volume, you may have a speaker wire shorting out, triggering the protection circuitry in the amplifier.

What do you have to do afterward to get everything back to normal? Does the volume gradually ramp back up, does it come back all of a sudden, or do you have to turn the stereo off and back on? Whatever you do to fix it, does it work every time? How often are you getting the problem?

Sorry about your problem, I kind of understand. I have a Digital Power SoundModul, that shorts after every heavy rain. Up to 128dB of static. The only way to stop it is to turn the car off. Back at the dealer again.

I've had this happen twice, I think? Both times it seriously freaked me out.

I don't remember if the volume level dropped or not after the loud tone (it is a tone, like a pure sinusoid, and not noise).

It is a loud electronic tone, short quick burst.. it is in all speakers. This is not a feedback tone, more of a firealarm tone

Just turn the volume back up, nothing residual about it. Of course the heart needs to start beating again 'cause the tone is loud and sudden and scares the crap out of you. This is a very random thing and has only happened three times in the 1.5 yrs we've owned the car.

Just had it happen today while listening to my iPod. This time, though, it wasn't startlingly loud, just annoyingly loud. I noticed that the audio dropped out for a second and then resumed with no change in volume level from before the beep.

I've had it happen twice, both times while listening to my iPod. I thought it was the Dice module, but now realize it probably was the HK. Doesn't seem to have affected anything other than making me jump off the seat when it happened.

I've had it once or twice, and if I remember it was while using the AUX input. It's been a long time though, and yeah... it was really damn loud.

This happened to me once about 2 years ago and has not happened again. Same thing - extremely loud beep that scares the crap out of you - then normal radio function again.

It's been doing it on mine lately. The volume wavers and it sounds like a bleepin video game tone laced in static interference. I've unplugged the iPod connector cable from the amp and still continues. Best solution I've found is to let the car thoroughly warm up before turning on the stereo. Inconvenient but it has worked. Amp still works fine. Just don't want it to spread anywhere else!

My '06 MCS (H/K no-iPod) has done it once in 2.5 years. Hoping it doesn't come back too much. We're talkin' pee-your-pants lose-control-of-the-car loud. Glad it only lasts a second.

Mine has done this as well. '06 R53 (MCS) [H/K no-iPod]. It's SO LOUD. I had my music at a reasonable level and it was early morning on the way to school, and I ended up stalling the car because I was stopped and had my the clutch in and it scared me so bad my foot jumped off the clutch and I stalled it!

I don't think that is the case. Mine has been doing this since I got the car (never around the dealer) and that was over 6 years ago.
