05 MC Head unit fit a 03 MCS

Hello, I want to buy a stock head unit that plays mp3's. My 03 head unit plays burnt discs, but doesn't play a disc full of mp3's. I know the 05's play mp3's.

Someone on the forum is selling their 05 mini cooper head unit for 100 bux. So my question is whether it will be a clean swap from the 05 unit to the 03, or will I need more parts or what not.

Thanks

Oh, and will the 05 unit show the text info for the song on the display?

Thanks again

Although I havn't done it, I believe the answer is yes to both of your questions. Simple swap, both use the same wiring harness and are the same size. And I know that it does display text.

The 05 head unit will fit. It also plays MP3's from CD-Rs and CD-RW's. Down to two directory levels (folder and track).

But I haven't been able to get the text from my MP3's to display on the head-unit display. If somebody knows it can be done, please do share. It only displays a folder number and track number within that folder. It is kind of neat seeing the numbers jump when you have your playback set at random.

The head unit in my early 2004 died and they replaced it with a 2005+ model since that is all they had. Works great for MP3s and looks identical to the other HU except the volume ****. I have the XM Direct sat radio kit and it works fine as well.

AFAIK, there is no way to get the unit to display the tag info. It would be cool and pretty useful though.
