That's 220 crank horsepower with a JCW, MTH header, alta CAI, and MTH Tuner? [and race fuel] and 207 crank hp with 95 octane? Is this the JCW which is rated at 200 crank hp or the 210?

edit: mth-usa says the header and file get "207+ BHP" on a standard Cooper S [not JCW]....

So my rig produce arround 200 WHP. The graph you see is crank HP, the bottom pink line is the transmission loss.

My mod are 210 JCW, Alta CAI, Supersprint Header, Denso IK22, Nology and Pilo Coil.

Though, I was hoping a little more HP like 230 crank. Please note that the gas here in Thailand is 95 RON which is about 89 AKI.

Cheers

@ Skuzy

You misunderstood the story with the second gasket. I was talking about a second cylinder head gasket when using a 17 or 19% pulley. That has nothing to do with the header!

rofl @ me,

i understand now, i thought it had something to do with the header because i havent heard a person talk about adding a 2nd gasket as a result of adding a redux pulley.

lol - ok roughly speaking, by adding another cylinder head gasket, ur lowering compression , this supposedly is good for the engine (im told).

by doing this, it allows mth to tinker with some sort of timing. but used only with the 17%, mth header and their special software

did i get that right?

No. It has nothing to do with the header. It is only one way to go when you have a 19% pulley or running 17 with 2% crank. All it is about is, that we can tweak the file even a bit further with that combo.

Here's a video of my MCS with 15% pulley and MTH manifold (9mb)

I'm very glad I got the MTH manifold.

In two weeks I have a dyno day with 13 other MINI's with all kinds of performance mods and stock MINI's.

The shot inside car also has the sound taken from inside the car. So you can hear it's not quiet enough inside to enjoy a Bach symphony

With the MTH header there is much more torque so I shift earlier in day to day traffic and still be quick. Above 4000 rpm hell breaks lose, but that's ok because then I need to be quick and the sound is there to go with it.

There is also a little drone at certain rpm's, but not the kind I get a headache from.

I have also got a video with the Milltek Catback only, so without the MTH header. This is more sophisticated but still very nice.

7,000 KM Update

It has been faultless driving. It is the first time that I have not wanted for a little more power. This is definitely the right mix for the average driver. The car is fast, pulls stronger, and with the JCW suspension have pushed the limits around curves (someone else driving it).

Biggest differences:

The accelerator is now no longer always on the floor.
Worried about the life of the engine because I am still not used to hitting the redline so fast.
Even when it's cold outside, I am driving with the windows down to hear the sound of the engine and all those pops (If the new turbo does not make those sounds, I will not be buying one). Totally transformed the sound of the JCW exhaust.
All that and it is still easy to drive in traffic and around town. Manifold and tuner made a good JCW a great car.

I would also recommend the JCW suspension. Incredible transformation in how the car handles. I am sure there are better ones out there, but the difference between stock and JCW is tremendous.

Thank you for the update that brought this thread into view. I have been lusting after the coated MTH header as my first, serious post run-in modification on my 06 factory JCW. My concern in buying was that I apparently need to install the MTH software for full OBD functionality and the whole reason I went with factory JCW was to get maximum performance with no-blink warranty support. Despite the lore, if a dealership wants to investigate an ECU upgrade, they will find it. So I started to dig a bit deeper.

First thing I found out is that if my dealership sees a header, they'll flag the car as 'warranty is suspect.' The second thing I have read/heard is that as with every other modification, to take full advantage of the hardware change, you need a software upgrade which explains MTHs approach of bundling the software. The third thing I've found is this thread which points out that MTH has a software map specific to JCW and low octane (I only have access to US 91/AKI). This information combine with very responsive replies from MTH to my annoyingly detailed messages makes me think that I need to bite the bullet and take the ride on the 'warranty suspect' razor. I did it with my STI and as long as the software is solid, there aren't problems. MTH seems to have one of the best reputations in the business.

I would appreciate additional thoughts about pro/cons in taking this step. After this upgrade, I hope to jump on the M7/project ram-air bandwagon.

I went JCW because I live on an island with only one Audi dealer and really no other options to take my car. So all the mods I have done have either been JCW or reversable. My car has been at the dealer for servicing, and they have not even come close to figuring out that the Tuner file has been loaded. I added the GRS intercooler, which has made a big difference, and the manifold. I have kept the old bits so I can just switch back those two things when it has to go into the dealer. That is something very easy for my local mechanic to do. It is not as bad as it sounds with anywhere between 15k and 25k between services. That is a lot of trips around the island!

Please note, that we do not officially supply a coated header. This can however be done through Pat. But it is not our own product (the coating) and we can not give warranty on this.
