Agreed WRT Carvana, which in the SW region is now dominating used car inventory. Not just buying sub-wholesale at auctions but also using 3rd party "finder" services that respond to private party CL ads with objective of finder fees for Carvana. I know this first hand from an ad I placed < 2 months ago on a car I purchased that didn't meet my fussy standards (hidden collision damage) and then resold on CL at a loss. An inquirer on that car revealed in text response what they do and I subsequently confirmed that from their SoCal website. Carvana is not nirvana!

Reason: Typos
Hoping to look at that tomorrow, it's local! Anyone seen an mc40 in this color? Or is his camera just ****? He states chili red, but it looks burnt orange and the seats match. So confused... Just wondering what is wrong with it
I just looked at this and the interior and paint look pretty good.
The Bad:
Not a JCW - only have the JCW carbon fiber dash
Both tail lights have stress fractures.
Both front rally lights are rusted (passenger one is zip tied).
All aluminum is quite pitted and the rims need cleaned up, the chrome is all a bit rough too (6 years next to the ocean).
AC recently stopped working (probably the AC clutch or whatever not engaging?)
Driver window doesnt go down, passenger window squeaks
Sounds super rough on start-up (not sure exactly the issue is)
Everything looks rusted underneath:
-Axles (not leaking)
-Control Arms
-front sway bar
-tie rods
-possibly the entire subframe
-every.... single.... bolt, nut and screw will be quite difficult to remove, as all are severely rusted (and i dont want that kind of trouble in my life...)
-passenger side exhaust strap rusted thru (driver side looked ok)
-mayyyybe right below the gas cap fill seam, didnt look too hard
Tires are super unevenly worn and all need to be replaced
Both strut mounts are almost completely torn through and dangerous to drive long distance. throws you all over the road
while driving i noticed when the clutch was not pushed in and sitting in neutral it made a noise that went away when the clutch was pushed in.
The steering feels rough, but could be due to the strut mounts?
One of the hood latches might need to be adjusted or replaced.
a rat partly chewed thru one of the spark plug wires (house next door had a rat issue)
-This could also mean rats on the inside of the car somewhere as well... and other future electrical issues
Bit of white on the coolant tank
upper motor mount (new style, not familiar) could have a small hole in the seam and leaked? not sure
Front black plastic lip of the bumper slightly creased
The good:
As i said, interior and body looks fairly good
64k miles?
transmission, clutch and shift box feels great (had an 03, so it was the **** version)
latex glove over the oil fill hole was sucking the glove in a bit
Looking inside the oil fill hole looked CLEANNNN.
No leaks on the underside from what i could see, oil pan and trans looked completely clean and dry
Honestly if someone had a complete subframe in decent condition it could be worth it, but some of those sounds were concerning when it was on a cold start. sounded like it was coming from the very front, supercharger (doubt), water pump (was pumping water when it heated up) or clutch slave cylinder (most likely) or something else?
Good luck to whoever ends up with that thing. will probably be pretty nice once all the issues are fixed. just the mass amount of rust kinda turned me off, as I have no idea how to extract every single bolt or screw that is seized and crumbling when u touch it...
EDIT: lol already sold. no surprise. I assume it was probably someone who did not see it in person. I was 100% going to buy it until i did...

Quick question, 05 JCW, do those come with the red jcw brake calipers typically? Or was it a piecemeal thing? Found one that looks super clean but didn't see the typical red calipers... Def has the head nameplate, intercooler cover, and jcw air box, and jcw exhaust tips.
The JCW brake kit was a separate dealer accessory from the dealer JCW kits. Only Factory JCW’s included the JCW brakes and limited slip differential, ‘06 on the hardtop or ‘06-08 on the cabrio’s.
One way to identify real 1st gen JCW brakes from painted and logo’d R56 S brakes is by the thicker crossbar on the carriers follows the curve around the hub. The R56 calipers have a thin straight bar.
Starting in ‘05 the LSD was available as an option from the Factory and not available from the dealer.

Sub 140K miles.
Automatic Trans is a must.
West Coast is a must... Prefer N. Cali.

This looks to be exactly what you're looking for (EDIT: except the wrong color... damn):
