2004 jcw

I have a beautiful 2004 Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works in excellent shape. It has a newer motor in it that has almost 110k on it, but is from a 2005 Mini Sport (all of the John Cooper Works supercharger/engine components were swapped). It has a K&N intake, and after doing the figures, this car should have 216 bhp. 29-32 mpg. ALWAYS ran 93 octane premium. Has a 6 speed with an almost brand new clutch. Runs excellently. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, it has a lifetime Sirius radio subscription, and the factory AUX. Has the single panoramic sunroof. Due to some problems with the immobilizer and a new key, all of the electrical system is being completely replaced with over $2000 worth of new oem parts straight from Tom Bush MINI (who is doing the work also) in Jacksonville, Florida. When I bought the car, nearly everything mechanical had to be replaced. Now everything electrical. Cosmetically, the car is beautiful except for a small cracked bump on the rear and a sagging headliner (will be replaced when I get back home). So after this work is done, there should be absolutely no problems to worry about. I live in Lead Hill, AR (just south of Branson, MO) and you can reach me at 870-754-3092. Text or call, can send pictures if really interested (wasn't able to upload them). Willing to deal from Jacksonville too, should be coming home once the work is done by the second week of August.

Which version of the JCW Engine Tuning Kit does it have?

It has the factory tuning kit from the 04 model. I have all of the certification for it too. In 2004, the John Cooper Works model produced 200 bhp. The sport engine in 05 had 5 more horses than the 04s engine. And then K&N claims their cold air induction kit to add 11 more horses. So with those figures (not including natural hp loss with age), the engine should produce 216 bhp.

The horsepower and torque difference (+7 each) between 2002-2004 and 2005-2006 MCS models are attributable to the latter models having the 5th Gen Eaton supercharger which incorporated an innovative rotor coating that allowed for tighter internal clearances compared to previous applications. These tighter clearances allowed for increased supercharger efficiency and performance, resulting in improved horsepower and torque at lower engine rpm.

The 5th Gen Eaton was used in both the 200bhp and 210bhp JCW kits. The latter kit included larger (380cc) fuel injectors plus associated ECU remap and an airbox.

You have to take K&N horsepower gain claims with a grain of salt ;)
