Also, the 'MINI' metal engine plate does not have the factory JCW number engraved. The dealer kits also lacked the suspension upgrades, LSD, exhaust, etc.
Actually you can't tell the factory tuning kit from a dealer fit kit ... they're exactly the same

The factory JCW will have a JCW Sport Brakes and an LSD, but not JCW Suspension (See attached PDF).

Good luck with the sale

Not in many cases, sadly. You will see on AutoTrader especially several JCW 'upgrades' that are not the full upgrade (either Stage 1 or sometimes even faked).

Remember on Gen 1 there were two sets of 'after-the-fact' JCW dealer kits - stage 1 and stage 2. Several opted for the stage 1, which did not include the cylinder head, airbox, etc.

Regardless, on all 100 original (real and badged, numbered) LotSC cars, all JCW equipment was factory-installed. There were very few options on these - Chrono, Seat Heaters, and that's about it. They were delivered to the top selling dealers, and I'm not sure if anyone was able to place a specific order for one of those options. Others in the LotSC club will know more about this better than myself.

According to all archived information on the Last of the Supercharged, the suspension was a specific JCW-tuned suspension (however, you're quite correct that it didn't have the sport suspension on the 3AL Cabrio). What that really entails, I'm not sure - it may have just been marketing fluff, or perhaps things got mixed up with two different generations being made at once. They marketed the same on my 2013 JCW and it's just the normal sport suspension with a different code and name.

The only really confusing part is that this PDF shows all Cooper S cabrio models came with 226 STD (sport suspension) even though that's contradicted elsewhere... Good ole' MINI! So, I'll take your word for it on the Cabrio and edit the description.

Appreciate the bump and info, though.

The difference between the 2 JCW Tuning Kits is that the latter kit (available October 2004 onward) had the JCW airbox and larger (380cc) fuel injectors (and associated ECU remap). A JCW Upgrade Kit was also made available for owners with the early kit to bring their cars "up to speed".

You're absolutely correct about being wary of cars "touted" as JCWs.

BTW ... My 2002 MCS has an early kit (#616) and the JCW Upgrade Kit ... but no badges

Sold to a very good home a few weeks back. Best of all, to a MINI family keeping the motoring spirit alive!

Thanks for all the positive comments and PMs - it was (is) a really great and rare car with a long life ahead of it.
