Turbo Converted MCS
Turbo Cooper S Feeler
Ok guys I am wanting to see if anyone would be interested in a 2004 cooper s converted to turbo only.
It is using the bullet proof SPI exhaust manifold with a gt2871R. Boost is controlled by an HKS EVC. It also has a HKS BOV. The car uses an AFC piggyback for fuel control. The fuel system has been converted to a return style system with an aeroquip FPR. It has a front mounted intercooler from bell intercooler. No nitrous.
The motor was rebuilt 8,000 miles ago. And was equiped with CP pistons, ARP head studs and rod bolts, and everything else is factory bearings.
The drivetrain has a spec flywheel and a stage 5 spec clutch. Just installed 1,500 miles ago. The axles were where also changed at the same time.
The engine has solid engine mounts. And there is a three inch turbo back exhaust.
It is using a Meziere water pump that flows 55 gpm. This is the same pump the FTR team is running and the car deffenitaly has no problems in the cooling department.
There is no interior inside the car except two factory seats and driver side carpet.
Spax coilovers have also been installed. Alta rear camber links and the new Positive Steering response has also been installed. Also a rear hotchiks rear sway bar. The car sticks extremely well.
The car pulled 370 whp on a dyno dynamics dyno at 26 psi. The tune is set at 11-11.5 afr.
The exterior of the car has a few paint chips and a scratch on the rear bumper. And it is british racing green. The car has 35% tint and has Kosei wheels wrapped in falken 215/45/16 (RT-615)
This car is not for the faint of heart but is the highest HP MINI on the east coast.
Just wanted to see what you guys think this would go for. I was thinking 35k.
Is up on ebay.

Probably a silly question, but is the car street legal? Still have the cat?
While I realize a lot work and money went into the conversion, the asking price seems kinda high for what might be a track-only car...

I'm sure you thought of this, but you might get a better response in the "MINI's for Sale" forum. Or if you just want opinions of a turbo only MCS, try the performance mods forum where everyone seems to have an opinion.
My first thought is that your MCS must have some CRAZY wheel spin. That's a ton of power for a relatively light car. Sounds like a real beast.

I say about 15k....The value of a car is not what is "invested" or sunk into it. A stripped and modded racecar is attractive only to a very narrow crowd and that crowd prefers to build thier own car and not try to figure out what someone else has done
When one does this to a car they own it for good unless they are willing to take a huge hit in price

The car is street legal in my county. We have safety only inspection. And a few places around the country still have no emmisions. The car could be simply equiped with a cat and it would have no codes.

I would guess that ebay or the road racing forum will be your best bet
whoever buy's this car isn't an average joe. This isn't a car you put up for sale and have sold in less then 12 hours. This car has a very specific setup on it meant for a very specific buyer. Anyone who buys this car will understand just how different this car is from a bolt on modded teenager rocket.
I'd say 35 to give you the respet you deserve as a fabricator but more realistically 30 to be fair to both you and hte buyer. I think anyone who buys this car will know exactly what they are buying and I would put money on the fact that they know a bit about the car already or about your journey into turbo only.
in short... this aint no bolt on depreciated mini... this is a one off custom car that WILL appreciate in value because of the amount of fabrication put into it.

Thats my point! how much invested is irrelavant to determining price. I DO hope you find that 35k buyer but it is not really possible to INCREASE the value of a rapidly DEPRECIATING asset like a car and usually the more money that is sunk only hurts the value more! Unless this car is built to a racing series spec so that you can immediately start entering competitive events it has little value to the broad marketplace.

FWIW, areas that don't have emmisions testing are fading fast... at least here on the East Coast... and in general, residents of those areas have minimal interest in MINIs. I would recommend getting the car tested to see if it will pass. Otherwise, your market for the car is severely limited.
I can appreciate the work you have done to the car, but for that kind of money, there are a lot of options for someone looking for a "toy" track car.
Modified cars don't appreciate unless they are built buy guys like FOOSE, Coddington and the like. A modded Mini won't since there are new and better products hitting the aftermarket everyday. Meaning better performing parts for the same money or less.
I equate this car to selling a Mansion in the middle of the projects. yeah you will get a better deal than building on your own, but you might have more potential problems than you bargained for.
The easiest way to get the car passed on the east coast is to simply get a PO Box in a county that does safety only and register the car there. Not that I would do that or anything.
...or happen to know and inspection station that will look the other way for a case of beer... a possible option if you live in a state like PA (private inspection stations), but if you live in a state like New Jersey (State run stations), it becomes much more difficult... and there are no areas in NJ w/o emmissions testing. So someone in NJ would have to get a P.O.Box in PA... something they really look for due to insurance fraud.
As a point of comparison, there was a guy out west selling a twin-charged MCS a few months ago. I don't think it was as nice as your car sounds, ... although his had an interior... but IIRC, he was selling it for $13K. I'm not sure if it ever sold.

Yes as a general rule car's with mods depreciate... except when they are top 5 in their class for car type... then things start to get expensive. Like i said... the person who buys this car is going to know what they are buying... not some bolt on happy noob like the rest of us.
There are 2 things that hurt your car. No interior & emissions.
What you are asking for the car has no bearing on what the car is worth. IMHO you could actualy get more for the car if the interior & emissions were addressed. Unfortunately these are 2 big issues for most buyers. I have not seen the car but a well done street rod can bring good money, no mater who built it. The quality of the build is key as well as the components used.

Thanks for the input guys. I am using this thread to give myself some ideas of what to expect and things I can do to help the car sell for as much as possible.
However how many MINI's in the country can run low 12 sec 1/4 mile times on pump gas and street tires? With the boost turned down to 20 psi it makes 300whp.

i feel you spillman, but how many people in the country actually care about a MINI that can do a 12 second quarter? i for one do, but my friend Mike who just bought a brand new MCC for much less than the 35k you're asking, couldn't care less. good luck and I would love to see pics.
Goin to take some pics tomorow. The price is deffinately not firm. I have all the interior pieces and bolts in storage, except for the carpet. So if someone wanted to reinstall the interior it wouldn't be a problem.
