Interesting engineless Mini on ebay

An interesting ad on ebay - do advanced search by seller "racerrad". Seems this guy blew a cylinder on his car and is looking to let it go as is.

2002 MINI Cooper with a blown engine

Starting bid $9000 and the car resides in CA

Could be a fun little project car for someone.

Interesting indeed. If outside of Cali, I'm thinking someone can order the Toyota Diesel powerplant and or salvage the rest of the parts from Europe.
I'm sure the prime spot for it would be a track project but maybe someone will hack a hybrid build into it. $9K is a bit high to start with though.

$9K for a 2002 blown engine Mini Cooper!
That's just WAY too much.

What about buy the car, buy the new engine thats for sale on ebay and then turbo it.

Or is this still to expensive?

To me $9000 isn't too much. Parts alone are worth that. Get the motor and put it in and you have less in it than buying one whole.
Just my $.02 worth.

How much would a new engine be for a MC? You have to consider it's an 02, MSRP was $17K plus options. I don't know if you'd break even with this. I mean $9k is the STARTING bid. What's he trying to get out of it

Ad says no reserve so seems if only a bid for $9k would take it, if someone does it. I'd say that's what he needs out of it if he set the auction up that way. Also sounds like it has a few goodies on it. Any other engines out there available?

The engine on Ebay is $2000 there are 3 on there right now.
It doesnt say how much shipping is but it cant be that much relative to dealership cost of engine.

Well, checked this morning and the auction says removed because no longer available. Guess he sold it or changed his mind! I'm guessing its sold.. . who out there bought it and what are you going to do with it???? I'm thinking of a similar project and wondering if it makes any sense.

Would have been a great base for a Phil Wicks race car...
