I am looking to purchase a Mini Cooper S . I don't mind the location as long as its within the U.S. and the price is also right .I dont have a preference regarding the color or the modifications ( just dont use the modifications as a justification for a higher price cos those mods are a reflection of you not me .).I have cash and am ready to buy one in the 12k to 15 k price range.......
PS : I really dont need a third car at the moment ( i just love the looks of the MCS ) so i'm prepared to wait, cos the longer i wait the cheaper they become , besides i think this mini craze will 'fizzle' in a very short time. 'Americans love big cars not small ones'.
I apologise if i've offended any mini fanatic, but i am being very real .

Welcome to NAM and good luck with your purchase. I don't know how good of an idea it is describing our passion as a:
especially when you are asking to purchase one from us, but that is your call.
Speaking to:
I think Americans hated the small poor quality cars that have been around in the past. I think the surge in the small sports car market including the VW GTI, Audi TT, Honda S2000, Honda Civic SI, and the MINI (last but not least) shows that there is a demand for quality small cars that the domestic market is struggling to meet. My $0.02

Unfortunately, i speak the truth even if it kills, and if for that reason no one on this board will not sell to me cos i refer to it as a 'mini - craze' then so be it. Like i've said before the longer i wait the cheaper they get ( the supply will definitely outweigh the demand, not to talk about the introduction of hybrid vehicles also, it will definitely get tougher and someone will sell to me). Thats one thing i love about this country, you can speak your mind freely and as long as its the truth , you will eventually get what you want.
PS : Remember, those sellers wouldn't be doing me a favor by selling their car to me .it goes both ways, they have what i want and i have what they need.it would have been a different story if it was being given to me for free.
' Good things come to those who wait '.

If your price range is between $12K-$15K me thinks you are looking for a 2002-2003 MCS and possibly with high miles. A 2004+ used MCS will be well beyond that price range.
I own a 2005 MCS CR/W 6MT and the current used market price for my car (11,300 miles) is around $21.7K-$22K.
My other MINI, a 2002 PW/B MC CVT with 36K+ miles currently sells in the used car market between $14K-$15K and this is for a car with just 2 factory options.

Well, the MINI was introduced in the US in March 2002 (Over 4 years ago) and the car is still selling briskly and some dealers in the West coast still have waiting lists. No rebates, incentives or firesale prices have been needed to move the metal, so far.
Because of the high demand and relatively low production, these cars still command the highest resale values in the industry. Often times it is cheaper or makes more sense to buy and order new vs buying used.
Soaring gas prices will make most ANY new small car in the market today very appealing. Unlike the 1970's, today's small cars have the quality, engineering, design prowess, handling, looks and quality that overshadows the best attempts made at small cars 30+ years ago. there is no comparison.
Americans are finally awakening from the SUV fallacy and are abanding them in droves. Gas guzzling, poor handling trucks are no longer cool, sporty or practical.
Hybrids are another hoax bestowed upon the American public and most people are discovering that while Hybrids sound great on paper, they are not all that they are cracked up to be in the real world. The extra money you pay for this soon to be obsolete technology does not translate into instant savings at the pump, unlike some manufacturers would led you to believe. Hybrids often fail to meet the high EPA fuel mileage numbers. There are many gas powered vehicles in the market today that are cheaper than hybrids and provide similar or better fuel economy. Take the Cooper 5-speed or the VW Golf TDI Turbodiesel.

Americans certainly are not loving the $65-$85 a week fill ups to keep their "Big" cars rolling.
These high prices are here to stay and besides the time has come for some of our "Bigger is better" mentallity countrymen to start making lifestyle adjustments and join with the rest of the world.

Heck, it only took three years before used MINIs sold for less than new ones!
You can definitely find deals, but you will likely need to wait. Not quite sure about the 'very short time' prediction (remember, small is the new black!), but hey, whatever works for you.

Our friend here expects to find an USED MINI firesale but he ain't gonna find one.
I think he should be looking at Saturns, Hyundais and Kia's that can be bought 6 months-1 year of use for 65% off the price of a new one.
Sorry buddy, barking at the wrong tree.
Good luck in your search! Try Autotrader.com - they currently have three pages of cars around your price range (12500 is the lowest). Many of the cheaper ones have high mileage or salvage titles, neither of which I'd recommend. All of them are Coopers, not the S model.
Keep your eyes peeled and something may drop into your price range within 6 months or so. I was in the hunt for a used, well-equipped S for about a year before I found the right combination of condition/miles/price. Happy hunting!

The search button is in the upper right of your screen ....USE IT.....Let us know when you find your MCS
You guys are rude. I think the attitude of the replies are worse than the original post.
I agree with cyne wan on one point - prices are dropping. BUT, they are not dropping to the tune of paying $12-15k for a MCS. For that low of a price, I'd be highly suspicious of the car.

Good luck with the search. Most dealers around my area will mark up a used MCS and try to sell them for more than when they rolled off the production floor. Its crazy!!!
If you want a used one, you'll obviously be better off buying from a private owner (everyone on here knows that). Cheapest I've seen has been around $17K - $20K range all depending the pkgs and mileage and the year of the car.
I'd say save your money and buy a new one for the price or with your kind of cash right now, that would be an awesome down payment. Good Luck

A bunch of hypocrites .......'a word to the wise is enough '
