COLORADO ONLY! Looking for TOATALED MINI's

Hey guy's/gal's dont know if anybody here frequents the local scrapers, or works in the insurance industry, but I thought it would be of some use to us as our cars age to start a scrapyard thread.

If you see a MINI locally in the junker... Let us know about it, we could use the parts.

I have looked at a couple MINI's going to (or coming from) auction in the last week or so, and they are destined to become the pices that you need. And they are out there.

I'm looking to buy a complete toatled car (rear or side impact) to use for parts if any of you have seen one locally.

Dont really care what they have in other states, or I would have posted this in the general NAM forum. This is for COLORADO MINI owners only, or it wouldn't be in the MINI5280 club forum.

Bahman and I are on the same page as you!

There is a Justa down here with some good sheet metal. http://cosprings.craigslist.org/pts/3186831314.html

I was in a yard a while back getting parts for a truck. Asked the worker if they had any MINI's just in case.

He laughed. Said no way. They are worth too much $$ and gone as soon as they get them.

So you might not have much time to snag one if you find one.

Even though you are in Ohio, things are the same out here in Colorado. Thats why I started this thread, to help us Colorado folks find some salvage goldmines.

MINI's are constantly going through insurance auctions (Many of which are public) and can be bought for salvagable parts for around $2-4K. Not bad of a price for a complete but wrecked car, but it does take a little higher end of a scrap yard to pay that price.

Not a problem here.

This does absolutely NO GOOD for anybody in COLORADO! I put this up in the MINI5280 CLUB forum section for a reason. If you dont want to read where you are posting to, please start a general/national thread.

Lot's of people around this country watch this websit perfectly legal.

So very true, lots of folks want to know what the MINI5280 folks are up too. :)

We are an active club and should be sharing our knowledge. It is nice if a visitor posts relevant information to the area. That is all DG is asking and I support that request.

Comments are good, great idea DG. As the R50s and R53s get older and parts get higher, nice to have a pointer to a source.

So post up if you see anything in the area that looks like a buy or opportunity for those looking for primo MINI parts.

We have 8 wrecked MINI's right now, we are parting them out too.

miniconcarne Aug 30, 2012 04:51 PM

Hmm..How does one come by a wrecked MINI?

DICKS GARAGE R53 Aug 30, 2012 05:07 PM

Insurance auctions are the easyest way.

miniconcarne Aug 30, 2012 05:40 PM

So a heads up to an auction with a MINI in it would be ideal?!?

DICKS GARAGE R53 Aug 30, 2012 07:50 PM

Yep, most of them that pop up are national auctions though, then you need to have the car (Or whats left of it) shiped to your house/shop/garage/storage facility/ whatever, sight unseen relying on pics and somebodys word. This is why finding MINI's at local auctions is the best way to go, it's just like buying any other car except you cant drive it, and you dont need to deal with plates or insurance.

That guy needs to loose the sentiment, and realize his wrecked car is not made of gold! $3K For an engine in who knows what condition and has 43,000 miles on it? Really... You can get a new remaned engine with a JCW head for $3400, new as in ZERO miles!

$700 for the two front seats!... Thats way over market IMHO. Glad I could help us both out and sell you all my stock seats for WAY less than that Hillis.

I have a MC07, Automatic. Timing chain recently snapped causing internal damage to the engine. I need to buy a new engine, refurbish it or perhaps part ways with the car itself.

Any ideas of the cost of a new, refurbished/used engine?
What does a MC07 with a dead motor sell for?

MC07 is in NJ (sorry just realized that this is a Colorado site)

JAB 67 Oct 18, 2012 07:49 AM

There's a guy in Falls Church VA with a totalled R53; listed on Craigslist; not sure present status.

Not a prob, your out east contact Way, one of the NAM vendors. Hey might be able to suggest some alternative to you.

Hillis24 Oct 18, 2012 01:16 PM

Way would be the place for you to find a motor, he has several waiting to ship. Standard and jcw

DICKS GARAGE R53 Oct 18, 2012 03:44 PM

Way would be a great place to start if you are on that side of the country. He is always buying striping and parting out totaled cars... Even had a GP at one time. Just remember shipping isnt cheap on large items.

So Hillis hows those seats look in your car? Better than the blue?
